The fight to rescue Iuz' prisoners and escape Dorakaa continues! The heroes (Prince Garlok with Timrith, Aeronne, Pudic, Tandris, Helga, Cliffy, Ichi, and Dion) continued their scramble to save the victims of the lowest level. Garlok and Aeronne fought off three hill giants while Timrith, in the form of a bullette, bored into another chamber, trying to find a path to the open air and sunlight. He reached a dormitory of ogres instead. Joined by a rutterkin and later by more ogres, the monsters put up quite a fight, nearly taking out the dragon and knocking out the paladin.
Meanwhile, below, Ichi, Dion, Helga, and the rest of the party staked the remaining vampires. Using dust devils, the heroes carefully gathered up two full-strength and seven lesser vampires before levitating/flying up the shaft to the surface. In Cliffy's magical house were all the freed prisoners. When the fighting got back, Tandris shadow shifting herself and Cliffy and Pudic (via Cliffy's house) up to join the fray near the surface just in time; things were looking bad for Garlok with the paladin unconscious and Timrith badly wounded. The ranger tore into the baddies and Cliffy's spells helped turn the tide. Together, the heroes defeated all their foes as well as a few more rutterkin, ogres, and even a troll. A handful of gnolls even begged to become the hench-monsters of the heroes!
They got Timrith back up and the brass dragon-turned-bullette burrowed through another wall and reached daylight. A bar-llgura spied him and dispelled his potion...only to be attacked by an annoyed brass dragon and his fighter/acrobat buddy! During this time, the other heroes reached the surface and the clerics had their dustdevils move into the sunlight, destroying the undead (and themselves).
The heroes tended themselves and healed their wounds. Then they magically descended to the first floor (Cliffy destroyed the staircase when he lightning bolted a group of orcs) and began to search for more prisoners to liberate. Soon, they came to Cell Block B, where the more "rough" prisoners were kept. The heroes didn't know this and after fighting many orcs and a few ogres, they freed this disreputable lot. In the process, they did meet the young psi, Oran, who joined them. The group also found a captive mage, who they freed on his promise not to turn on them. The rest of the rabble did not wait for the party to find a way out and their screams brought the heroes running. Many of the 50+ prisoners had fled immediately...into the arms of orcs and worse. The heroes arrives and slaughter rutterkin and orcs, buying the absolute respect of the surviving couple dozen thugs.
Together, the group found Cell Block A, where the less aggressive (and generally less evil) prisoners were held. After quickly slaughtering the eight ogre guards, the heroes found themselves with over 120 MORE innocents to save (including several pregnant women)...and no way to do so. Tandris offered to go meditate inside Cliffy's house and the heroes holed up in the Cell Block A.
After 20 minutes, four vampires oozed in gaseously. The hungry undead fanged several innocents, but the heroes defeated and staked/gaseous-vacuumed the blood-suckers quite handily, dashing outside to forever end their vampiric existence in the sun.
Later, Pudic lead a group to reconn several of the nearby rooms. In one, he found four tyrgs, which ferociously attacked, snapping the ranger's neck! Luckily, Garlok, Timrith, and Cliffy stepped in, quickly slaughtering the creatures. While the elf went for help, Garlok used his magical rag to slow Pudic's slow death. That's when the formorian giant arrived. It survived two rounds going toe-to-toe with both the Prince of Amberwood and his brass dragon buddy before the mountain of misshapen flesh fell. First, however, the jotun struck Garlok a deadly blow. Only the magic of his magical sword kept the Prince alive long enough to get healing from Helga. The dwarven cleric then saved Pudic. She and Ichi took out a few more foes and then the Cell Blocks grew quiet.
An hour later, Tandris emerged from Cliffy's magical house. The heroes had already filled the place with the weakest of the non-evil prisoners (plus a few more who snuck in). The telepath took the wooden cube that was the house's manifestation on Oerth and shadow shifted back to Veluna City. There, she spoke with Pope Hazem's bodyguard and advisor, Harbinder Prandoori. The middle aged Hindi woman was also a student at the Institute from the time Tandris had been there. Using her own psychic gift, Harbinder created a wormhole between herself and Dorakaa using the mental images from Tandris. This gave the heroes a chance to rescue all of the surviving prisoners from both cell blocks, sending them all directly back to the Court of the Pope in Veluna City.
