Black Robe, Oerth's mightiest shaman gathers several groups of heroes to challenge the forces of Iuz and protect the peoples of the Wolf Nomads from his orcish forces. Answering this call are the Akom paladin of Ra, Namunhi elven cleric/fighter of Corellon Larethian, Malkierian Abatha bard-in-training, "Meep" the kenku, Kashi the bushi, and Talking Bird the shaman.
The group's goal is to wrestle a ruined, abandoned fort away from orcish control. The first day out, the heroes are ambushed in the woods by a party of a dozen orcs. Victorious, the wounded heroes retreat back and heal up. In the middle of the night, a band of orog attack the Flan village, intent on punishing the orc-slayers. The heroes save the group of Lakota and rest the following day. On the 12th, they walk to the ruins, slay a pair of ogres, and fight their way in. The heroes defeat the various orcs arrayed against them, Akom finding an ancient suit of platemail in the process while Malkierian narrowly avoids being roasted by a multi-headed fire-breathing dragon.
The heroes explore the basements under the fort and slaughter the orcish defenders. Akom goes so far as to start slaying those females which fight, but only those which attack first. Several waves of orcs attack, using the females and children as bait, but the heroes manage to maintain, albeit in part due to Malkierian's skills with a blade. Largely victorious (the heroes never found the orcish leadership or any clerics of Iuz!), the group retreats back to the Lakota village.
