Sponsored by the Temple of Wee Jas in Portown, a group of heroes (Shang-Lung Drake, Wynd and his cooshee Thunder, Anasta, Mang, Alec, Shiekh the blink dog, Tyris=Flare, Dobby, Ziyi, Bart the cleric) assembled to seek out the recently-uncovered (so-called) Tomb of Orcus and clean it out. The High Priestess demanded only an equal share of treasure for providing the heroes with the info and doing the leg-work on finding the Tomb.
The group journeyed largely without incident across the Cairn Hills. Each night they noticed the strange multi-colored mists in the distance and heard the distant howl of dire wolves. Wynd, however, convinced the wolves that the heroes were not good targets and the lights in the mist never got close. On the morning of the 26th, the group found the remains of a sacked merchant caravan. In the afternoon of the they encountered a large group of ten minotaur tracking in formation. The heroes fought these creatures and despite the minotaur attempting to parlay (from a position of power they did not have!), the heroes slaughtered them.
In the morning, the party tracked several bloodied tracks to a grace site. The cairn, one which was actually fairly well known, had been raided some 300 years earlier. An elven Druid and his companions had slain the predator vampire, Malkitzedek. While the cairn were well-worn, the inside showed signs of renewed activity, including a huge nest of blood hawks. Passing beyond, the group battled some reptilian beast that breathed balls of lightning and a large horde of tiny demons performing some ceremony with the living remains of a cairn-tour group.
Once the heroes rescued the four victims (as well as the merchant they'd found earlier) they decided to search deeper within the ruins. The stairs down were magically warded, but Mang managed to destroy the runes with an amazing stroke of luck. Meanwhile, Alec had rushed through and attempted to save Anasta from another horde of little demons. The heroes battled through various groups of these little demons as well as skeletons and zombies before catching their breath. Unfortunately, in the process, Tyris=Flare exhausted her time as a living being while Alec had his right arm severed just above the elbow.
