[Rewrite of ending of previous story: An elf joins the party (Mikhail, Cedric, Adama, Glorianna, and Marc) just before they step through the gate. His name is Jacomo. Mikhail then planeshifts with the party and eventually end up through the gate surrounded by borg.]
Above them, they notice a gigantic cube (a moon?). There are two towers of molten metal embedded with gems and hooked up to wires on either side of the gate.
Adama notices that some of the drones have protein disruptors and immediately detonates one of the nearby ones. Marc assumes a defensive posture. Cedric starts getting the rod of cancellation off of Mikhail’s back, while Mikhail casts heat metal on the borg, which acts quite well on their nanoprobes, heating their blood. They all start suffering various debilitating effects: blistering, damage, etc. Glorianna casts chill metal at five of them.
Mikhail next attacks with a vent of electromagnetism at another borg that has a protein disruptor. Marc and Mikhail both get shot at with protein distruptors. Marc gets hit, but not Mikhail. Glorianna gets hit with assimilation tubules.
The heat metal effects start further damaging, disabling, and killing borg. The chill metal effects also start going off: one powers down, the others take damage. Adama detonates another protein distruptor, taking out the nearby tower and both borg standing near it. Mikhail summons energy from the plane of radiance and shoots two borg, but he misses.
In the midst of the battle, one of the heated borg becomes liberated (all the nanoprobes have been burned out of his body) and tries to help the heroes. Meanwhile, Mikhail gets hit with a protein disruptor and critically hit by a borg and also assimilated and Glorianna gets assimilated once again.
The “frozen” borg unfreezes and starts moving slowly, much to the chagrin of Jacomo, who had been hacking at him. Another chilled borg’s arm just breaks. Mikhail stuns the two borg on him.
Glorianna targets both Mikhail and herself with heat metal in an attempt to free them of the nanoprobes. Mikhail has an item of fire protection so is unaffected, but while the druidess takes quite a bit of damage, the spell saves her from the borg assimilation. Adama detonates the last borg with a distruptor.
Another borg freezes up and stops moving. Cedric has now freed the rod of cancellation from Mikhail’s pack. It’s still wrapped, though. He now enters the fray, helping out Mikhail. Mikhail activates his strength power and starts attacking with his scimitars.
Marc uses his gauntlet to drain health from a borg, replenishing his own. Adama detonates another borg. Mikhail collapses and starts turning pale. Glorianna tells Jacomo to remove Mikhail’s fire resistance pendant and give it to her. He gets the wrong thing at first. Glorianna gets hit with a protein disruptor. Jacomo gets knocked unconscious and assimilated.
Mikhail recovers and removes his fire resistance pendant. Glorianna catches him and some borg with heat metal. Jacomo gets grabbed and Adama gets assimilated. Glorianna also gets assimilated, but the heat metal destroys the nanoprobes. She goes unconscious. Mikhail gets hit by the disruptor. Adama collapses.
One of the heated borg’s leg bursts and he collapses. Another bursts into flame and dies. Cedric drops the rod and runs off to take on the disruptor borg. Mikhail casts heat metal on Adama, Glorianna, and a couple borg. One of Marc’s borgs starts sparking and gets stunned from the heat metal.
Mikhail casts cure light wounds on Glorianna. Marc runs to help Cedric with the tough borg. Eight more borg start moving in. Adama screams in pain from the heat metal her brother cast on her -- it has destroyed the nanoprobes, but the internal heat causes her arm to burst and shoulder to completely rupture. Marc gets disruptor blasted again. Cedric runs back to the party to help with the incoming borg. The borg dragging Jacomo goes down from heat. Marc drains his borg after Cedric runs off.
Mikhail heat metals some of the incoming borg. Marc gets disruptor stunned. Three more borg start coming in. Mikhail time shifts away. Glorianna has recovered, so she flies up to the top of the gate and pulls out her bow. Adama’s torso has caught on fire and her leg splits open from the internal heat. Glorianna decides to cast heat metal on Marc’s borgs. Marc is looking really poorly now after getting hit with the disruptor again.
Mikhail blinks back in and shatters the borg standing over Adama. Marc gets knocked out by the big borg. Mikhail casts heat metal at the incoming pack of borg. Glorianna goes to help out Marc but gets knocked out by a disruptor blast. Mikhail time shifts again. Cedric gets mobbed. Glorianna gets assimilated. Fortunately, the lingering heat metal spells start taking their toll on the borg.
Mikhail blinks back in, puts on his ring of shooting stars and activates it, creating a massive ball lightning. It clears the borg on Cedric although also damages the ranger. Just two borg are left right now. Cedric runs toward the disruptor borg but gets hit with the disruptor and goes unconscious. Mikhail takes out the two remaining borg.
Now Mikhail sees nine borg approaching. He casts cure lights wounds on Glorianna to bring her up. Glorianna brings Cedric up with a cure light. The three of them go through the gate. The mist is gray. Mikhail scoops up one of his scimitars and the rod and time shifts. Meantime, the borg are surveying the scene. He blinks back in and starts beaming him and Marc ethereal. They are safe! But after a few moments, from their reaction it's clear that the borg can actually see the two ethereal men! That's when loads of borg start showing up...!
Mikhail casts cure lights wounds on Marc and gives him good berries. The pair then rest for a few hours on the ethereal plane.

Meantime, Glorianna, Adama, and Cedric find themselves on the blasted world of Sunev. Glorianna casts heat metal on herself to burn the nanoprobes out of her. Glorianna casts endure heat on the whole party all and they settle down to rest.

Back on the ethereal plane on borg-world, Mikhail moves away from the borg and begins to meditate. After about three hours, they both take damage from some form of energy the borg are able to beam into the ethereal at them. Mikhail and Marc move but the borg keep using this energy beam to cause them harm. The pair continues moving and once the attacks cease for a moment, Mikhail shapeshifts several times to heal up a bit. The two finally decide to use a potion of invisibility to hide from the borg and so Mikhail can meditate in peace.
Hours pass and the young druid's mental powers have finally recharged. The two of them decide to sneak up to the gate invisibly. The gate has no mist. They wait a bit longer, no change. So they decide to have Mikhail time shift up to the gate to strike it with the rod. It doesn’t work the first time, so he time shifts away to try another time. He also uses the time to time shift and grab his missing scimitar, but his fire resistance pendant is missing. Mikhail repeats the attempt on the gate again. This time it works. The gate explodes! It stuns all the borg, giving Mikhail time to get away. Mikhail uses the last of his mental strength to shift the two of them astral and they start walking home.

After three days, Glorianna is able to heal Adama enough so she’s not in excruciating pain. Permanently crippled with marginal strength, dexterity, and movement as well as combat penalties, but able to function on part with an aged kobold.
They decide to step through the gate when it is sparkling gold, but they end up on the blasted fused glass world. They walk through when it’s tan and gold. They end up on Sunev. They feel very tired. It’s now blue with silver lightning. They have to spend another 24 hours on this world. They walk through when it’s pink and white. It takes them to the desert world. The mist is green. They step through and it works on the 3rd try. They smell like chlorine when they arrive on Sunev. Turquoise takes them to golf-ball world. Black and silver takes them back to red desert world. They seem to have lost their memory. Green takes them back to golf-ball world. Umber takes them to the desert world. The borg are there. They try to hail them. They attempt to go back through the gate but it doesn’t work. Two borg move to attack. Adama detonates one. They pass back through and end up back on Sunev.
They rest up for a day before trying again. They go through black and silver again, and end up on golf-ball world. They go through gray, and they’re on the desert world. The borg are there. They jump back through and end up on golf-ball world. They end up back on Sunev. Glorianna scries up Mikhail and sees that they are on the ETHEREAL plane. They realize that he probably destroyed the gate, and they are on their own.

In less than a dozen hours, the pair reach the boundary to their home universe, but Mikhail mistakenly shifts them to the deep ethereal instead of the prime material. They're now lost in the shift multi-colored sea of the ethereal. Days pass with Mikhail guiding them and the pair encounters several strange elemental beings which they avoid. Finally a deva swoops in and speaks with them, sensing Mikhail's power and helping him use it to sense the reality of his home plane. More days pass and the pair encounters human travelers and helpful couatl. They also encounter the curtains to the planes of smoke and salt, which Mikhail briefly explores in order to enhance his planar energy projection, but also resetting the pair's quest to find the prime material. Finally, 49 days later, the pair emerge nearly a 100 miles to the south and Mikhail teleports them to Klarr....
