The heroes (Zylvanar with Leia, Shyana with Celeni, Baghsheer, Wynd and Thunder, Arod, Demetrius, Arod, Doby, Draegar) speak with Gamoth and Mikhail about the situation just after midnight as well as once the sun has risen. The young druid explains that the telepathic "chatter" off shore hasn't stopped at all -- it is limited to the empathic "register" used by fish and sharks and rays, but still very "loud" and "powerful" as well as having the feel of sentience about it. The sensation is odd, but despite the unusual power, it's still unlikely that more than a handful of Oerth's telepath (empaths, really) would be able to feel it.
Mikhail explains that while the heroes slept, he magically and psionically tended to their wounds, then teleported to visit several of the Eastern Circle's Druids, warning them of the threat. Angus MacLeod and Cainna Nih Falen are both headed south, searching for borg, while the three Druidesses of Artemis are similarly scouring the countryside for any other borg which may have escaped. The goal is to create a perimeter beyond which none of these creatures can escape, then let the party finish off the main "nest".
Gamoth calls for the destruction of the portal the borg came through while Mikhail suggests that the group merely close it for now. Both are over-ruled by the heroes intention to end the borg threat at it's source -- annihilate all the borg in the sea-cave.
Accordingly in the morning, the heroes get ready, joined by Cedric (who came with Gamoth) and Jacob (sent by Shonda and Nanarch, once Narissa of Artemis explained the situation -- it just took a while for him to arrive). Accompanying the party but staying back on the beach are Gamoth (to cure anyone infected and offer healing support from outside the cave), the seven wolves that Daniel O'Shea summoned, the two blood hawks from the slain druid-borg, Fergus, Mikhail (also to heal as well as to keep tabs on the heroes via a telepathic link to Thunder), and Adama (to protect her little brother).
Arod flies over the cliff to drop down on the raised borg sentries. Unfortunately, they get the drop on the elf and despite his mirror images nail him with multiple, exploding wrist-rocket "rocks". He falls into the ocean, drowning...
Wynd is invisible and taking point with a find traps spell. The magic reveals nothing, but he senses that something is not right and hesitates accordingly, backing up the party. Doby charges to save his fellow elf, followed by Jacob, Baghsheer, and an animal growthed Leia and Celeni. Suddenly the waters around the cave mouth churn with a dozen sharks! One great white shark beaches itself trying to get Jacob and another bites off Doby's foot (DOBY STILL GETS A SAVE VS DEATH TO SEE IF IT'S ACTUALLY REMOVED -- my bad). Bull, blue, black-tip, and leopard sharks also attack and Leia steps on two sting rays, squishing one. No one reaches the borg, as they're suddenly battling for their lives.
Doby catches sight of a lemon shark GENTLY dragging Arod off as two octopai are carefully removing all of the elf's magical rings and bracers. A huge school of silver smelt dart in and out, making vision difficult. The New Hero hops on his good foot and begins raining arrows of death into the water. He stuns Arod's shark and seriously wounds two of the four on him. Baghsheer leaps onto the raised platform easily, launching a burning hands into the borg, who explode, taking the mystic out and destroying themselves. Jacob takes telepathic control of a borg, but Demetrius puts it to sleep and then the explosion destroys it completely. The massive lion and gorilla tear into the sharks, slaying one each. That's when ten borg move in...two moving to assimilate Baghsheer, now unconscious on the ledge...
Draegar shoots two, stunning one and stappling the other through it's knee to the cliff. Zylvanar charges into combat to protect the archer, calling to Leia for help. The carnivorous ape, however, has lost it and is mindlessly smashing any shark in reach. Celeni the lion is also destroying the sharks quite effectively. Thunder gets a telepathic message from Mikhail localizing the source of the fish-telepathy, but as he swims towards it, another black-tip attacks. After he destroys it, he sees a borg with a trident which darts off at amazing speed. Suddenly the sharks are behaving normally and most flee!
The heroes continue battling the borg and Doby saves Arod. Shyana heals Baghsheer, whose hip is damaged and full of shrapnel, halving his movement and dexterity and further giving him an -2 to hit. Demetrius moves into combat, protected by a mirror image with five extra copies. When the borg see this, they preferentially attack the Spartan, especially as reinforcements arrive. Jacob goes down and is forgotten in the surf while Cedric takes out a borg and damages another but is assimilated for his troubles.
From the ledge, Draegar, Shyana, Celeni, Doby, and Baghsheer use magic and missiles to aid their companions. Shyana heals Arod who also has a damaged left leg and hip, reducing his speed and dexterity to 1/3 and all adding a -2 to hit.
On the beach, Cedric collapses and his body barely responds. He tried to use his mental powers to ego whip the borg, but fails. Demetrius takes the attention of at least five borg and after three rounds, finally goes down, despite three images still being intact. Wynd joins the melee and Thunder helps out Demetrius behind, now avoiding a tiger shark. Leia, however, leaps at the shark and throttles it. Instead of fleeing, however, it bites off her leg at the left knee. This enrages the ape who then shreads first the tiger shark (ripping it apart lengthwise!) and then its borg master. As the massive carnivorous ape snaps the trident-wielding borg's spine, Mikhail feels the telepathic/empathic broadcast abruptly end.
The heroes defeat the remaining borg, effectively establishing a foot-hold (toe-hold) at the mouth of the sea-cave. Unfortunately, getting this far has crippled several of them.
