After Hagar falls through the gate, it's clear that the effect will not last. Demeter pulls out a rope, but Hagar is wounded, weakened, naked, and swimming in a beautiful tropical ocean off a nearby coast. Urthur grabs his sword and joins the Norsk, as do both Ulfrik and Galen. Neither of these other two can swim and further, Ulfrik is in chainmail. Demeter tosses his spare backpack to the group as the gate closes. Although weakened, Hagar and Urthur pull Galen to a coral reef and then return for Ulfrik, who has now lost consciousness in his armor. Urthur uses some healing technique from his home of Eon to revive the fallen runecaster, although Ulfrik is in terrible shape now.
Back in the Tower, the heroes continue searching. After an hour, they return to the library with the bluish warding aura on the 3rd floor. Joe reads a scroll Meep found in the desk on the fourth floor and finds one of the spells is dispel magic. Demeter offers to cast it on the warding lights. The spell works, but doesn't completely remove the effect. Meep becomes impatient and pushes Rumess into the blue glow, the resulting discharge of magical energy nearly killing him. The clerics restore the elf to consciousness and he transforms into a VERY angry weretiger. Meep takes off during the change and Esmerelda tries to minor quest the druid-weretiger, to no effect, so she then follows the kenku, with Kaystar on her heals. He grabs the door to the stairs and holds it closed, saying "I don't have to be faster than the cat, just faster than the rest of you," effectively trapping Joe and Demeter in with the creature.
The weretiger's two greatest rivals in the party, however, have both gone the same way. The lycanthrope bashes down the door and goes after Kaystar. It's quickly evident that none of Kaystar's weapons will hurt the beast and Rumess lacks the skill to easily land a blow on the platemail-clad fighter. Meanwhile, Esmerelda and Meep hide on the first floor and Joe and Demeter lock themselves in the library. The fighter battles the werecat all the way to the ground floor where he leaves the tower and lures the cat into an ambush by five thieves. Kaystar slays one and the were cat two more. One runs to the end of the promontory and the elven leaders goes through the open door into the tower.
Kaystar manages to rummage through the fallen bandits' gear and find some silver pieces. He uses them as a form of brass knuckles on the badly-wounded weretiger, dropping him. Several attempts to slay the unonscious cat fail, however, and Kaystar tosses the body into the sea...
Meanwhile, inside, the elf moves about and nearly discovers Esmerelda. Meep back-claws him and bolts outside. There, he sees Kaystar and knocks him off the cliff into the sea as well, trusting that the lithe fighter will quickly drown in his platemail. Esmerelda comes out and the last bandit arrives, but they slaughter him and return into the tower.
More than an hour later, Joe and Demeter regroup with Esmerelda and Meep. The stone golem on the third level won't let them back up, so the group explores the 2nd level, finding the elf and ultimately killing him. They all then thoroughly search the tower. Finally Joe goes and talks to the stone golem, who announces that Joe is his new master. It still doesn't like Esmerelda and is fixated on plucking and serving Meep.
After spending the night, the group returns to town where they pick up a Maximillian, a cleric of Boccob. Together, the group again searches the tower and the cleric finds the book floating 8' off the floor of the library under an invisibility spell. The group then tries to explore the basement, but six sepia snake sigils take out all the fighters for two and a half weeks.
The group returns the book to Alcastra and is rewarded.
