A wizardess, Alcastra the Fairspoken, puts out a call for adventurers from her small frontier town. Answering are Aiden (cleric of Nerull), Norrin (Highlander nobleman), Raguel (swordsman), Galen (psi-warrior), Fluffy (winged lizard man), Nath Dagmar (spell-casting sneak), Demeter (Medegian warrior), and Esmerelda (witch of the Fates). The group is seeking the Illhiedrin Book, a tome lost 30 years ago after the death of the mage, Charellsfane. Alcastra had little information for the group other than to seek assistance from her sometime-ally, the high priest of Bast in the town of Tassin's Wood, three days distance.
Except for Norrin, the group rented the common room of the inn at Alcastra's hold. The Highlander, however, tried to sleep in a deserted alleyway but instead wound up fighting three of the wizardess' defenders and being kicked out to spend the night in the wilderness.
In the morning, the party set out and on the first day traveling through the woods, were ambushed by a pair of ogre bandits. The heroes were victorious and in the process befriended some immature, bipedal, burrowing bird-being.
Once in the town of Tassin's Wood, the party ran afoul of a pick pocket and then Ferdinand Halloos, paladin of Horus, who revealed Aiden's deity to the party. The high priest was of little help although he did strike up a deal with the heroes where they would journey to Charellsfane's tomb, slay the orcs there, and return with the wizard's skull and treasure -- ALL to be returned to the temple of Bast before THEY resealed the tomb with the remains inside.
The group headed two days across the plains to the tomb and battled six ghouls in the night. The next day the group reaches the tomb where they find signs of magical traps and many dead orcs. The party gets passed another six ghouls, then some orcs, before finding and slaying three more ghouls and an orcish shaman.
