The heroes (Kennibrae, Wooden Thighs, Gamoth with Ashtabular and Leia, Corvin Oakmead, Cedric, and Isaac) continue their battle in the "medusa's" lair...
There are four driders on the ceiling. Woody leaps up and wall crawls toward one, slaying it, while Isaac and Cedric start shooting arrows. Kennibrae gets the magic dart from Mang and tosses it up at a drider but misses. It does make a spectacular explosion, though. The driders return a fireball and lightning bolt and several party members lose magical items...
At this point, a medusa steps out from behind a stalagmite, turning Isaac to stone. Gamoth bathes the area where the medusa is with a sunray, blinding a drider and possibly the medusa (?). Kennibrae and Isaac realize that the medusa is just an illusion and warn the party. Woody leaps back up to the ceiling to start in on another drider. Isaac gets beaned by magic missiles from a drider. The blinded drider casts mirror image on itself. There are now five of it.
A beholder now floats in. Kennibrae runs to engage it. Unfortunately, its central eye turns off her magically-enhanced strength. Cedric, who has faced a beholder before, ego whips the thing, sending it floating away in fear.
A blinded drider wildly casts a fireball at the party. It drops Kennibrae. Another blind drider wildly casts web, catching everyone but Kennibrae, Gamoth, Mang, Isaac (free action ioun stone) and Corvin (who fortunately cast free action on itself).
Kennibrae starts levitating and tears through the webs to get to the driders. Corvin and Mang go after the beholder. Gamoth lights the webs on fire, dropping Woody and Cedric. Now that she can see them, Kennibrae magic missiles, killing a drider and destroying three images off another. The drider casts ray of enfeeblement at Kennibrae, but it fails. Another drider blindly cats web.
Meantime, Mang and Corvin enter the passageway and come to another hole in the ground. The beholder is down there and blasts the pair with eye rays. Corvin gets charmed but Mang is worse off as the beholder uses its telekinesis to make the dwarf float directly above it, exposing Mang to ALL of its eye tentacles...!
Back with the driders, Ash gets rid of all of a drider’s mirror images with magic missiles while Gamoth goes to heal Cedric. Kennibrae attacks her drider, getting rid of a couple of images.
Isaac now follows the dwarves into the passageway. Corvin (charmed) casts hold person at him, but his stone of free action protects him. Mang meantime gets feared by the beholder. Isaac attempts to shoot the beholder, so Corvin attacks him, knocking him out.
Gamoth get annoyed that the combat is out of reach, so he casts transmute rock to mud on the ceiling to bring the driders crashing to the floor. Ash finishes one off on the ground while Leia enters melee with the other.
The beholder blasts Mang with eye rays again. Leia, Kennibrae and Cedric work on the final drider, while Gamoth takes Ash to help out with the beholder. Gamoth blankets dispel magic on Corvin and Mang’s area. It doesn’t remove the charm or the telekinesis, but does remove the fear on Mang. Unfortunately, Mang gets feared again with the next blast of eye rays.
Since the charm on Corvin wasn’t dispelled. Gamoth orders Ash to knock Corvin into the pit. The dwarf attacks the tigress, but she manages to send him flying into the pit. The beholder dodges and Corvin slams onto the floor 30' below. . . still charmed.
Cedric and Kennibrae go into the passageway. Kennibrae casts dispel magic, dispelling the fear on Mang. Cedric hits the beholder with another ego whip, which causes it to drop Mang to the floor and flee down a passage.
Ash and Kennibrae jump and feather fall down the pit, but Cedric misses the cue and remains behind, annoying the tigress. Mang drinks a potion of speed. Kennibrae tackles Corvin so Mang can run after the beholder, putting him in a serious hold and kissing him joyfully on the cheek. The way clear, Ash and Mang go rushing after the beholder.
Gamoth checks on Woody. He’s just unconscious, so the Arch-Druid goes back to see if they can get down to help out with the beholder.
Meantime, Mang and Ash have pursued the beholder on its way to a gigantic cavern. The dwarf catches up and attacks with a fury of blows, but while close to death, the monster doesn't die. Ash catches it just before it floats over a chasm, but her claws don't end it either. The beholder, however, remains feared. Ash then magic missiles it in the "back" as it floats away, knocking it out. The creature is now listing over the middle of the chasm.
Meantime, Corvin casts command at Kennibrae and gets her to start disrobing. He runs after his “friend” the beholder.
The beholder has now floated to the other side of the chasm and bumped against the far wall. Now a bunch of tentacles last out and grab ahold of Ash. They are ropers. Corvin shows up now and sees the beholder in trouble. He tries to find a way to get across to it but can’t.
Ash gets poisoned by the roper tentacles but clears two of three tentacles enwrapping her.
Gamoth creates a slide/ramp with transmute rock to mud to drop down the 30' and join the fray. He, Leia, and Cedric slide down the mud ramp.
Mang cuts off more tentacles from the roper.
Gamoth casts stone shape to make sure Corvin can’t make it back up to them. Corvin counters with a stone shape of his own to keep the rest from using the ramp. Kennibrae shows up and finishes off the beholder with magic missiles, breaking the charm.
The heroes heal up and camp out for a while. Four hours later, Woody recovers and does his shape change a few times to heal. The party is ready to move on. Ash, Gamoth, and Woody cross the chasm to explore the other part of the beholder lair. They find another beholder hole that rises 60 feet. The room it leads to is lit with apparently torch or candle light. Woody climbs inaudibly.
The rest of the party starts crossing the chasm on a rope that they managed to stretch across.
Woody finds a room with tapestry, a bed and other furniture in human child size. He climbs back down and reports what he found. They decide to fasten a rope up there. As Corvin and Woody are on their way up, they hear a voice in Undercommon asking who is approaching. They respond that they are envoys from the surface. A color spray spell blasts them from above but doesn’t affect them. It issues a second warning. They continue up and encounter another beholder.
Corvin gets disintegrated. Woody gets teked and turned to stone over the pit. He falls and lands 60 feet down. He’s still breathing but not moving.
Further exchange with the voice results in a massive fireball (illusionary), which takes out Cedric, Kennibrae, and Leia. Gamoth turns into a thrush and Ash turns into a hummingbird and fly up. Ash gets caught by a charm. Gamoth manages to elude all effects. Ash resumes tiger form to protect the “beholder.” Gamoth blankets the room with dispel magic, removing the charm on Ash, who now attacks her former “friend.”
Gamoth figures out that the illusions are coming from an invisible gnome somewhere. So he tells Ash to disbelieve everything. Gamoth threatens to blanket the entire room in a wall of fire, which causes the gnome to surrender. The gnome explains that he was charmed and was serving the beholder. He is happy that the beholder is dead and offers to give more information in exchange for their promise that they will give him his spell books.
The figure out that the whole room is an illusion. Mang goes to check it out. It moves to stop him, and Kennibrae stabs him, stunning him. Mang finds a passage that leads up as far as he can see. Kennibrae tries unsuccessfully to charm him.
They search him and the room and find:

They get the gnome’s cooperation. He tells them where the beholder lair and the treasure. He wants them to get his spell books first so he can be more useful.
Woody goes up 26 stories with Mang and Gamoth (as a gecko). They emerge in a dark room. Gamoth pulls out a light stone. They find a table full of magical books and scrolls. Two gargoyles swoop down from the roof to attack them. They finish them off quickly. They find:
11 spell books and four scrolls, all of which go to the gnome
Bottle Bastard sword
Boots, fur-lined
Magic pan pipes
Bronze amulet set with 7 garnets
Behind a massive stone block they find monetary treasure:

(plus previous loot that survived Kennibrae's box being destroyed):

They return to the gnome village four days later and Gamoth wind walks back to the surface with the treasure and the entire party.
