The heroes (Mang, Kennibrae, Wooden Thighs, Gamoth with Ashtabular and Leia, Corvin Oakmead, and Cedric) gather their wits and search the drow caverns. In the process, the party finds Alec, cleric of Prometheus, also a dark elven captive. The heroes revive him and rest, Kennibrae pointing out that this isn't a drow outpost, but more a refugee camp for noble houses that worship the Spider Queen.
The heroes decide to try and track down the one dark elf that escaped the battle. While Cedric, Kennibrae, Ashtabular, and even Woody's tracking skills failed, Gamoth cast lesser animalism to grant himself the senses of a grizzly bear (Ramu) and easily picked up the drow's path. The heroes follow the track for about four hours before catching up with and defeating the dark elf. They are careful, however, to just render him unconscious. Gamoth uses a detect magic and a single charm person or mammal to gain his allegiance. Quevvan then serves the party as an able scout and guide, though he shows marked disdain for Kennibrae and the dwarves.
Over the course of the next four days, Cedric realizes that he can read and project his thoughts into the minds of the animals. Ash seems a little taken aback, but Leia loves that she can more easily communicate with the group and takes a real shine to the ranger.
At some point four days later, the heroes are ambushed by a pair of mind flayers and their dozen troglodyte allies. The heroes make fairly quick work of the minions, but the mind flayers prove exceedingly dangerous foes. Only Cedric is immune to their powers and at one time or another every party member is stunned. At one point, after one illithid is slain, the other uses a combination of its powers to kill and eat the brain of the charmed drow scout. It then attempts to do the same to Gamoth, but even stunned, the druid's mind is sufficiently powerful to resist. Before the monster can try again, he must flee from Woody... The mind flayer teleported in the Underdark and even tried to go ethereal, but Gamoth used a dispel magic to bring it back. The werelord ultimately catches and kills the illithid. The heroes find quite a bit of treasure in the monsters' lair.
Two days later, the heroes encounter a group of deep gnomes. The gnomes try to let the party pass without a word, but the heroes' superior sense pick the little guys out. The party makes contact and the gnomes talk them into slaying a nearby vampire that is a major threat to the gnomish community.
The party makes the relatively short journey the next "day" to the vampire lair with the aid of a pair of gnomish scouts. About a half hour (they thought it was an hour) shy, the two gnomes duck out and the heroes discover a large cavern with a beautiful garden and starlight. That's when the fireball goes off and stuns Kennibrae and Alec while killing Leia. Mang spots a succubus and goes after her while Woody spies the source of the spells. Gamoth uses a sunray on the spot the were-pather points out, but the vampire endures; he's an elder with several centuries under his belt...
The succubus summons a balor before Ashtabular slaughters her. Woody and Gamoth quickly finish off the drowic vampire mage as well while the dwarves with Kennibrae's help kill the demon. Total battle time is less than a minute, but the cost was Gamoth's companion. With Alec's help via a probability control and imbued moment through Cedric, Gamoth is able to use his elixir of life to save his carnivorous ape companion. Leia, however, is going to need a full day of rest and there is the matter of the vampires' lair...
