Before the heroes (Idky, Torr with Zayüß, Yavin, and Ichi) leave Anath, Tabet, and the Temple-Complex of Isis and Bastet, they are joined by Athos, a Medegian thief who had been adventuring on Terrax for about a year and ran afoul of the law. He found himself in debt to the high priestess of Bastet, who decided to send him with the party to “protect Torr.”
They step through a dimensional fold and enter a garden on the edge of a city with Eastern-style architecture at dawn. They’re in a park complex with a structure nearby. It’s the library of I'ama, the one that the heroes have been looking for. Athos climbs the pagoda, unlocks a window to peer in. He sees a central carousel that houses the dusty scrolls. Torr and Zayüß airwalk up to him to make sure he doesn’t commit a crime.
Idky and Athos stay behind and hide in the bushes around the pagoda, while the rest of the group go into town to see if they can find out when the library opens.
The party, especially Torr, Yavin, and Athos, draw lots of attention from the townsfolk. The group heads to the market and speaks to a cabbage merchant. They ask when the library will be open. The monks open it late in the morning after their devotions. They buy a cabbage and give it to Zayüß. Zayüß also wants some carrots, which Torr dutifully gets for him. While in the bazaar, the paladin also asks about the Dragon Claws. The bandit-monks apparently haven’t reached this town yet, but the townsfolks have heard horrible tales about them. The merchant then directs the heroes to seek out the White Lotus Brotherhood monks. They buy a bushel of carrots and leave.
Meantime, Idky and Athos have visitors (the White Lotus monks doing their chores!). An old man comes up and opens the library. Idky casts tongues and begins talking to the old man. He tries to convince him that he was sent by Hu Hsen. Meantime, thanks to a telepathic heads up from Yavin, the rest of the group knows what's going on and hurry to arrive. Ichi takes over the conversation with Torr translating, this time with a younger monk. Ichi demonstrates the Mad Monkey Fu disarm. That impresses them somewhat, but they want more. He initiates blur as they continue sparring and stuns the man with subdual damage. He then leaps and attacks, knocking the man unconscious. The old man is finally impressed. Yavin heals the man.
The heroes are now welcome to the library. The old man spends hours with Torr and Ichi going through the scrolls and helping them find what they’re looking for. At some point, Torr and Ichi feel like they’re being watched. Torr dispels it with his sword. The old man insists that they remain to face whatever danger they’ve just possibly brought onto the library. Torr and Ichi agree.
About 11:00, something lands on the library roof and tears into it. It is 12’ tall with dragon-like head, arms and torso of a man, and three bright purple eyes. Yavin mind thrusts and hits it’s brain. Ichi runs upstairs and Torr airwalks up. Ichi, unfortunately falls when he tries to jump up onto the roof. Torr clocks the monster when he gets up there. That’s when a second one lands out in the garden. Only Yavin sees it and mind thrusts. Athos starts climbing the building to get up to the one on the roof. Zayüß airwalks up to help out Torr.
Ichi runs back upstairs and finishes off the first monster. He leaps down to make sure it’s really dead. Idky, who doesn’t see the second one, runs into the library. It rushes in to attack Ichi and misses. It also gets caught by Yavin’s mind thrust. Torr and Zayüß attack and kill the creature. Athos, unfortunately, falls through the roof.
The monks are impressed. These things are Yau-Mor, creatures of the underworld, evil members of the celestial bureaucracy. The elder monk and librarian invites the heroes to stay for lunch, but insists that they must leave afterward. However, the old man has found a scroll that might help. It says:
It talks about the black leopard temple. It was a wonderful pagoda roofed in red and gold (the one seen in the dreams). The men of the north used a talisman of pure good to sink the temple into the earth. Supposedly there were no survivors.
H’sin-to is in the mountains (Dragon Spine), on the edge of the River Feng, about eight days walking from here. Poh Nih was a sage that served the black leopard clan. His symbol was an eagle rising from the pages of a book. They have recently re-formed as the black leopard society, but the Dragon Claw behavior is more like that of the black leopard clan of old.
Eeps: 2333 (all but Idky and Athos) + 500 for saving library (all)
The heroes are given a map to get them to a monk that Ichi is going to fight for his next level. The master librarian is named Li Wu, a stocky mistress of the Iron Fist style. Using lighten load and levitating a cart with a chunk of the party in it, the group makes it to the town in a couple hours with a levitating cart pulled by an airwalking Zayüß. Li Wu tells them that she will fight Ichi tomorrow. While they’re waiting, two invisible stalkers show up. They make short work of them—destroyed in 20 seconds.

to the dragon from the north,
his chamberlain left his side and fled.
Not down the mighty Feng,
but by the River Hidden,
which joins it at the cliffs,
across from H’sin-To,
in the eagle tomb of the wise Poh Nih,
where the city men bury their dead.”
