In the evening of the 9th, the heroes board a ship to sail to Pe Nok. On the boat, Arthur is scribing stoneskin into his spellbook with the aid of levitate spells. Meanwhile Ichi and Idky break the itemized monk’s swords, hoping to free him.
On the morning of the 4th day (618/12/13), a ship flying the imperial flag of Pan T’ang signals that they want to board the merchant vessel. After a brief exchange of questions, the captain hides the heroes (Idky, Torr, Yavin, Ichi, Arthur and Quendi) in a secret compartment in his quarters (Zayüß is already in the hold). Quendi stays outside invisibly and Yavin links in with her in order to telepathically hear the conversations on deck. The Imperial marines are looking for a group of foreigners who are martial artists, enemies of that state who have gone against an imperial edict. One crew member say there were some foreigners on board, but the captain covers for them. Quendi hears people searching the ship.
The marines search the captain’s cabin, continuing their conversation with him. They go back above decks and Quendi hears a commotion. Quendi casts fly on herself and goes to investigate. She fades invisible again just as a bunch of imperial soldiers come through the door. The captain isn’t with them but there are seven mean, including a mage-looking man.
Quendi casts passwall through a porthole at the imperial ship. Three of the men attack Quendi, and the mage casts magic missiles at her. Torr and Ichi attempt to break out of the closet and fail at first. Yavin casts darkness in the room (using his telepathic link with Quendi to target the spell). Ichi ends up messing up his hand with his attempt to break through the door. The mage pulls out a light stone, canceling the darkness. Torr takes down the mage and one other marine.
The party starts pouring out of the hiding space and mow down the men in the room. Torr rushes upstairs to help the crew. Meanwhile, screams come from the other boat, as the crew realizes their ship is now sinking. Idky and Yavin start tending to the fallen imperial marines. Ichi joins Torr, but he first cuts the ropes attaching the imperial ship to the merchant vessel. Quendi heads up as well and lobs a fireball at the bowmen. She catches all of them, killing them and nearly catching the ship on fire.
More guys, including the imperial commander, swarm Ichi and Torr. As more jump on Quendi, she casts mass sleep. All of the imperials on the merchant ship fall asleep. More imperials come aboard. Arthur casts tongues and orders them to surrender. They instead call for everyone to “kill the foreign wizard.” Quendi also attempts to order them to surrender, while flying up and holding her staff aloft (with some assistance from a pyrotechnics spell directed at the nearby burning ship), but they don’t respond any better to her. The merchant captain yells out the same order, and they all submit.
The healers (Yavin, Idky, and Torr) salvage as many of the imperials as they can -- ten die, all but one victims of Quendi's spells...
The party runs into a sticky situation trying to convince the mariners and the captain to let them continue. It took a phantasmal force image of the Imperial Palace, a polymorph self potion to look like the Jade Emperor, tongues, telepathic linking, and a dimension door to make it look like a teleport into the palace. But they convince the mariner to let them go and help.
The heroes finally arrive at Pe Nok around noon on the 16th only to find the monastery smoldering. They head toward the area in the hopes of contacting the priests. They round a corner to find six men bullying a woman. Ichi jumps them as one threatens her with his sword. He gets swarmed. Yavin faerie fires them all. Idky gets attacked by one guy, who takes off his right leg at the hip, nearly killing him and leaving a TERRIBLE wound. Arthur magic missiles Idky’s opponent and Torr takes him down with his blade.
Ichi starts fighting his opponents in continual darkness. Arthur levitates looking for an opportunity to help out. A crowd starts to form. Torr joins Ichi in the darkness. They quickly dispatch the men. They get down to one man and disarm him. He flees the darkness, and Ichi pursues. Torr and Zayüß then break his swords. The man yields and assumes a submissive position.
Yavin gets into his mind telepathically, but the former imperial guard haughtily demands that they beg his forgiveness. Yavin convinces him to calm down, and he walks off. The woman explains that the Dragon Claws slew everyone in the shrine. The party just slew the chief enforcers of the group from the monastery.
Her name is Tal Sey Loh, a humble pushcart merchant. But Yavin casts mind read and finds that she is a member of the Black Leopard Society, a secret resistance movement. She intends to ask around her Society for a priest who can help the party.
Yavin takes about 8 minutes to psi heal Idky.
