Week 12—
“Now the ocean will train you how to stand firm against it’s power. If one can resist the ocean, one can resist any man. Keep in mind a reed will bend while a tree’s great bough will break. But this matters little to the reeds if the bough lands on them.” Zayüß also participates in this exercise.
Day 1, the students (Idky, Torr, Yavin, Ichi, Arthur, and Quendi) are to walk into the ocean gradually and resist the waves as they go deeper. Doing this teaches the student how to remain on their feet, regardless of the situation. There seems to be a storm off in the distance and this figures into future days. Passers: all but Ichi and Torr
Day 2, Because of his success the day before, Yavin is the teacher today. Passers: Arthur, Ichi, Torr, Zayüß
Day 3, Zayüß (with Torr as translator) is the day’s teacher; no one else could keep their feet from the Master’s towel-snap. Passers: Quendi, Ichi, Arthur, Idky
Day 4, Arthur is teacher. Passers: Idky, Ichi, Torr, Zayüß
Day 5, the ones who have completed training are assisting, but there are now jellyfish in the water. And these little critters start stinging students...! Passers: Torr
Day 6, the weather is getting worse, and there are jellyfish again. Passers: none
Day 7, Yavin and Quendi both fail again. 8-(
During the ”final exam” Quendi and Yavin attempt to knock the others off their feet with their towels. Afterward, the rest use their towels to whip off their feet Quendi and Yavin. Everyone is now covered with welts, except Torr, Zayüß and Ichi (thanks to bathing in dragon's blood).
Those passing this week learned immovability: all but Quendi and Yavin
Week 13—
Day 1: Now the group goes back into the water with their practice naginatas. Jellyfish are in the water. They are to practice their maneuvers the first half of the day. The second half, they are to try to use towels and practice as if they are naginatas. They are not supposed to leave the water. Zayüß opts out of the exam since he doesn't have arms, much less opposable thumbs. Accordingly, Hu Hsen tells Zayüß (the wise horse) to supervise. The following pass: Ichi, Quendi, Yavin, Zayüß, Idky, Arthur
Day 2: The party notices that jellyfish stings don’t heal. The master forbids them to use spells. The following pass: Ichi, Arthur, Idky, Torr. Yavin ends up getting gravely ill from the jellyfish poison. Yavin heals his and Arthur’s damage psionically.
Day 3: Passers: Zayüß, Idky. Arthur ends up getting ill today. Yavin psi heals his damage. Unfortunately, it becomes clear the next day that this healing limits the positive aspects of the jellyfish toxin...
Day 4: Passers: Ichi, Arthur. Quendi , Yavin, and Zayüß get ill today. Yavin psi heals himself.
Day 5: Passers: Torr. Arthur gets ill
Day 6: Passers: Quendi, Yavin. Zayüß gets sick.
Day 7: Passers: Quendi
Those who passed this week now have the discipline ironskin (+2 to AC, stacks with only a martial AC): Ichi, Idky, Torr, Quendi

They are to go spearfishing, by leaping from rock to rock while also avoiding getting stung by jellyfish. Bigger ones are in this fish (can you say Portuguese man o’ war?). And don’t fall in!
Day 1: Arthur, Torr, Quendi, Ichi pass
Day 2: Quendi and Yavin pass. Idky gets stung really bad and has to take off the next day.
Day 3: Arthur, Ichi, Quendi, Yavin pass
Day 4: Arthur, Ichi pass
Day 5: Idky, Yavin pass
Day 6: Torr passes
Day 7: Idky passes
Those who pass this week learn leap (you can leap over your opponent, land behind him and attack—if you have a second attack): all but Torr and Idky

Master calls them into a clearing. Two wicker baskets full of cooing doves are with him. They are nearing the time they will be sent out to spread the word of the Mad Monkey. They are to party. The doves will be released as they prepare for the party. There are bags of black powder tied to their feet. They are to avoid the powder as they prepare over the week. They are not to disturb him while he is meditating is his cave. They are to learn how to do things speedily and dodge. The skill is called speed.
Day 1: Idky, Ichi, Quendi pass
Day 2: Quendi, Yavin pass
Day 3: Ichi, Yavin, Torr, Zayüß pass
Day 4: Arthur, Ichi, Quendi, Yavin pass
Day 5: Idky passes

They must learn how to dodge birds, a maneuver called blur (works like a cloak of displacement against one attack from the same person who has multiple attacks per round).

Day 2: Yavin, Torr, Idky, Arthur, Ichi
Day 3: Quendi, Yavin, Zayüß
Day 4: Arthur, Ichi, Quendi
Day 5: none pass
Day 6: Torr and Zayüß pass
Day 7: Zayüß passes
All but Idky pass this week and learn blur.
In addition, many get towel-cracking bonus for teaching the others.
Week 17—
A monkey shows up at their huts and calls them to help the master, who was captured and put in a cage by oni. Some gather up their original weapons and a magic item or two. Idky and Ichi, who run faster, get their first. They find a number of oni (three groups) armed with saw-toothed sword arguing over the master’s fate. They are a total of 8, and they are bigger and stronger than the ones they’ve fought before.
Idky and Ichi each get aid spells from Idky. They all attack the group that wants to kill the old man. The master claps his hands, and everyone’s weapons and armor turn to cloth. They start attacking by “towel snapping” the oni. They successfully defeat the go-zu oni. All but Quendi learn the skill steelcloth.
The master twists one “dead” oni’s ear and learns that they were sent by the celestial bureaucracy to learn about the disappearance of the other oni. If the master allows him to live, he will delay returning to report to the celestial bureaucracy for a month. That will leave the party about three weeks to accomplish what they need to after training.
Week 18—
The master tells them there is an evil force, the Dragon Claw, spreading. Its purpose is to cripple all other martial arts. They must be opposed, or all the Eastern realms will fail. They are to gather all their belongings before entering his cave for the final test. They will encounter, one by one, a beast. They must demonstrate their knowledge and skill and with the naginata, and it will let them pass.
Each goes in one by one to face a 4-armed beast. They are beneath the volcano now. Each one fights the beast, demonstrating what they’ve learned. When the creature is satisfied, he reveals himself to be the master, who gives them counsel and congratulates them on their progress. He then allows them to join the previous combatant and blow the horn to call in the next.
They pass the test and are sent back out to defeat the threat of the Dragon Claws. They are to find the master and stop him/her/it. He suggests they start at the Library of I’ama.
He walks them back to the clearing and they share a cask of wine. After a while, they fall asleep and find when they wake up they are back on the peninsula.
Oni eeps: 10,400 each (except Quendi)

In addition, the Master presents Ichi with a special naginata at the end of the training -- it is a precious heirloom; wield it well!
