The morning of the 19th, Black Robe answers Kyron's dream message about Mikhail and Moonlight, arriving soon afterward. The older druid, however, explains that he is suddenly aware of a great purpose to put the river spirit to which will help deal with a number of threats, namely the exact location of the primordial God of Death, Necros. The location is the ruins of the lost, sunken continent of Morgan...
Mikhail uses his animal telepathy to pick the vision out of his mentor's mind, only to realize that the images were EXACTLY what a psionic teleporter would need to blink there -- not the usual vision shared through magic. Distrustful, the psionic druid insists that Black Robe use a commune to ensure that this is not another complicated divine plot...indeed, the spirits reveal that a mortal is at the heart of this endeavor...
Moonlight returns to Fangoria via Mikhail's teleportation. There, they gather a party, estranging Kennibrae (and Daj, who supports dark elven rights and generally fights racism!), but including Captain Raitan Drake and Rufus the Mariner as well as Saanau the Violet Witch of Klarr. After a couple of days in Greyhawk gathering supplies the party -- Moonlight, Mikhail, Helga Hushpuppy, Cliffy, Jamal, Jyolli, Dobby, Raitan, Rufus, Saanau, and Stephan -- step into the waters of the Selintan River...Saanau casts an airy water while Helga has used a lighten load and Raitan has already used several watery protections, so that everyone gets into various bags of holding (Jamal is itemized) and Mikhail uses the mental image to psionically teleport to the bottom of the deepest ocean on Oerth...
There the heroes find themselves in the deepest, murkiest depths. Nothing lives and all is still. The only thing preventing their instant death from the pressure is Saanau's spell. Raitan polymorphs into a deep one while Stephan and Jyolli become sirens. The heroes set about exploring the ruins of a civilization that sunk beneath the waves more than 10,000 years ago...
In about a half hour, suddenly out of the darkness looms a skeletal dragon. It unleashes a blast of negative energy that drains many of the heroes of their vitality. Only Saanau (protected by a negative plane protection), Raitan, Jyolli, and Stephan (all outside the bubble) escape unscathed. The heroes begin to battle Necros as it calls shadows to its aid.
Mikhail unleashes a raw bolt of positive material energy, but it does little to the primordial god. Rufus, however, benefiting for Raitan's improved doomblade spells, cuts several nice chunks from the beast. Dobby and Jamal try to help, but are hampered by the dimensions of the airy water and their bladed weapons. Helga is racked with the monster's claw and is paralyzed.
Each time the monster begins to weaken, it breathes in the heroes' life force, feasting on their life-energy and strengthening it. It manages this three times before Rufus brings it to the edge of death and finally Saanau uses her wand of magic missiles to destroy the deity of the neanderthals...
...a wave of mystical force passes over the party, but it can find no host, as Necros was slain with a ranged spell from a device...
...the heroes are reeling from the wave, which also summons a horde of skeletons, some spectres, and even four Morganti vampires! Stephan is bit before the heroes can counter attack and save him. Raitan's earlier carrier current comes in handy as the Captain swims the whole party to safety using his spell.
Raitan heads straight to the surface where the heroes find themselves after more than nine minutes of swimming. There are no landmarks in sight. Mikhail gathers the group and teleports back to Fangoria.
In Fangoria, several heroes realize that some portion of Necros' essence has lodged within them --
* Dobby holds a divine presence, capable of influencing any untrained mortal
* Jyolli finds herself with the wisdom of the dead
* Rufus finds his senses greatly enhance
* Mikhail discovers he has an innate sense of what is reality and what is a disturbance
* Cliffy finds that he is now fearless, having faced his own death and won
