Week 4:
“Most of you have been seriously hurt this past week. Perhaps I should deal something that you fragile children can handle.”
The master has the heroes (Idky, Torr w/Zayüß, Yavin, Ichi, Arthur, and Quendi) sit with eyes closed, meditating. While meditating, flies start buzzing around, they start sweating, they start getting hungry... Ichi, of course, understands what’s going on. So the master assigns him cooking duty.
Idky, Quendi, and Yavin get the lesson on the first day. The next day, Arthur has to meditate during breakfast. Everyone gets it this day.
The third day, it is raining, becoming a full thunderstorm. It’s harder to concentrate. Today, Arthur gets it right away. Quendi catches a head cold. Yavin also gets understands the secret of the lesson.
The next day, it is raining a little less hard, but water is collecting. The students must continue their meditating in water. Idky, Arthur and Quendi pass. Torr and Zayüß don’t make it and have to continue the next day.
The fifth day, there are mosquitoes, but they don’t seem to bother Torr. He and Zayüß both pass this day (because the horse was smart enough to sit 101 feet from Torr so he doesn’t share his dragon senses)
The next day, Torr and Zayüß have to meditate again, but there are ants out feasting on mosquito bodies. They both pass. By day seven, they all are able to meditate, and their monkey talismans light up.
Week 5:
“To a fish, a monkey and a man look like brothers.”
The party gathers on a rocky outcropping to meditate. As they meditate, the master starts drinking wine and whistles, to distract them. Arthur, Quendi, Yavin maintain their meditative trances. He wanders off and returns with a couple monkeys, who stumble around. The master swings the naginata at them, but they swerve and dodge. “Master this art, and you will be the monkey’s master.” The ones who didn’t maintain their trances, receive a bonus due to their wisdom and focus.
They are now supposed to learn to dodge like the monkeys. The monkeys have been irritated by the party’s actions, so they want a chance to teach them what they’re doing wrong. The next day, on the rock, the monkeys are lined up in little monkey armor. They are all given powder puffs and must powder the monkeys’ noses three times. They are not allowed to move, just dodge and weave. The monkeys get to attack them with their serrated spears, much sharper than the spears the party were using. They all pass the basics of feinting this day.
The second day, they must go up against two monkeys each. They all complete successfully this day.
The third day, the go up against three monkeys. Zayüß is the only one not to pass this day.
Day four, Zayüß has four monkeys. Unfortunately, he also fails.
Day five, five monkeys. He again fails
Day six, six monkeys. Finally, even the paladin's warhorse has learned how to feint.
Week 6:
Time to try something simpler. H Hsen holds up a bottle that used to have rice wine but has a pink fluid. He mumbles something that causes the bottle to disappear. All they see is the pink fluid. He tosses the bottle at them and they must hit it with their ‘naginatas’.
Each day, he pours out more fluid, making it harder to see and hit. This happens until everyone is able to hit the bottle over four days.
Idky, Torr, and Zayuss have learned blind fighting.
Week 7:
On the first day, they are told to go to the volcano and have to meditate while the monkeys are mating. They want to teach the party another lesson. Idky, Ichi, Arthur and Quendi start to develop true mental focus, giving them mental resistance.
Second day, the monkeys start howling as they mate, making their concentration more difficult. After the third day, Idky has mastered the discipline and is sent to clean up glass bottle shards. On day four, the monkeys are in full orgy mode, making concentration even harder. Quendi passes and goes to help Idky. By the seventh day, the monkeys start actually throwing things. The following get the discipline of mental resistance: Idky, Quendi, Ichi, Yavin
Week 8:
The monkeys throw rotten fruit. The heroes must spear fruit while dodging. They make a ring. As each person leaves the ring, they are pegged by more monkeys. Goal: spear three pieces of fruit without getting hit. They are able to use their Mad Monkey Fu style.
Day one winners: Ichi, Idky, Quendi
Day two winners: Torr, Yavin, Ichi, Quendi
Day three (with rotting fruit) winners: Ichi (done), Idky, Yavin, Quendi (done)
Day four (fruit is more rotten) winners: Yavin (done), Torr, Idky (done)
Day five (fruit even more rotten), it’s just Torr & Arthur left. Arthur passes this day.
Day six: Torr finishes and is done. Arthur passes this day.
Day seven, just Arthur: He doesn’t pass.
Whoever passes the whole thing now knows the full weapon kata for Mad Monkey Fu with naginata (AC 5 with no armor and full damage plus two on the rank—d10/d12)
Week 9:
Boar hunt without the master. Goal: a boar a day per person (42 all together). They can practice any skills they didn’t master.
Day 1:
Quendi gets her first boar and hits the first bottle for blind fighting. As she is off, a demon with an elephant head hits her with a wand. As she strikes at it, it disappears in a cloud of orange-and-black striped smoke. She sees a butterfly flitter out of the smoke, and she follows. She calls out to it, and it shoots away into underbrush. Since she has detect invisibility up, she sees it creep away toward Arthur as a ladybug.
Arthur experiences a similar thing and gets hit with the wand. He falls over unconscious. The demon giggles, turns into a butterfly and flies away. Quendi casts Tasha’s Hideous Laughter, but it gets away. He finds a boar but it brings him close to dead. He calls for help, and Yavin comes to him. Unfortunately, it drops Arthur, so Yavin kills the boar and gets his for the day. Arthur is concussed and has a -2 charisma gash on his face. With help, he gets his own boar.
Torr gets his boar and practices mental resistance (with some help from the monkeys having sex around the area) and fails.
Ichi gets his boar. He goes for blind fighting.
Zayüß also practices mental resistance.
Day 2:
Quendi gets her second boar and hits the second bottle for blind fighting. Arthur hunts boar with Idky. He gets his second boar and practices mental resistance and is successful that day. Torr gets his boar and practices mental resistance and succeeds. Ichi gets his boar. Yavin hunts boar
Day 3:
Quendi gets her third boar and misses the third bottle for blind fighting. Arthur hunts boar with Torr and gets one. He succeeds mental resistance this day. Torr gets his boar and practices mental resistance and fails. Ichi gets his boar
Day 4:
Quendi gets her forth boar and hits her third bottle for blind fighting. She now has blind fighting. Torr gets his boar and practices mental resistance and succeeds—he has earned the discipline. Arthur hunts boar with Zayüß and gets his boar. He fails mental resistance. Ichi gets his boar
Day 5:
Arthur hunts boar and gets one. He earns mental resistance. Ichi gets his boar and earns blind fighting on this day.
Day 6:
Zayüß earns mental resistance. Yavin attempted to learn blind fighting but fails the whole week.
During the week, different party members gets attacked by the elephant head demon. Idky actually manages to grab the wand away. As a result, everyone has learned all-around sight.
