The heroes (Tandris, Domar, Thera, Tyris=Flare, Moonleaf, Amora, Alal and Clanndennagh, Joline, and Siouxsie) take their commandeered spell-jammer to the Grinder over the course of a day. This time gives them a chance to deal with their wounds and recover their strength a little.
Siouxsie the wraith scouts ahead and finds a safe place on the asteroid for the party to rendez-vous. The group decides to leave the spell-jammer behind, using Alal the Dark Angel and Siouxsie to transport the heroes from the edge of the Grinder to various asteroids until they reach Orcus' base. Unfortunately, it will take several trips and the angel's flaming wings are a bit noticeable. As a result, Tyris=Flare, Moonleaf, Thera, and Joline are alone on the surface of the asteroid when they spy hordes of skeletons and shadows approaching them from multiple directions.
Thera uses invisibility to undead on Joline (who is actually alive!), interrupting her earlier chant. Unfortunately, two vrock fly in and are NOT fooled by the spell, though they can't understand why the other "undead" aren't attacking Joline. The heroes quickly slaughter one demon, but the other teleports away to safety. That's when the host of undead arrive. Things look bleak as Thera cannot command the shadows with so many skeletons present, while the shadows ARE able to harm her. Tyris=Flare cleaves her way through the undead and Moonleaf tries to do the same. IN the end, however, Thera creates a huge horde of shadow minions as well as skeletons. The corporeal undead she siccs on zombies while the shadows she keeps with her.
At this point, the other heroes arrive and together the party enters the core of the asteroid, using their undead bodyguards as a shield. Very quickly, Thera has nearly doubled her stock of shadows while Tyris=Flare uses her ice storm to take out the corporeal undead. With very little opposition, the heroes manage to reach the heart of the asteroid where they encounter a host of demons and three vampires.
One vampire unleashes a lightning bolt which slays Thera. With the cleric of Hades as their master thirty-some shadows surround and attack the party....things look bleak...until Tyris=Flare unleashes the power of Destruction and a massive fireball removes all threats not actively in battle with the party. What's more, one of the vampires was kind enough to bring the Wand of Orcus with it...!
Working together, the heroes battle to the wand and Domar grabs it. Unfortunately, the Wand speeds the fighter's body's decomposition and Tyris=Flare has to take Orcus' relic. She hands it to Moonleaf, a fellow undead capable of safely handling the Wand of Death, only to hear the voice of the Demon Prince offering her life again...
The other heroes, meanwhile, have battled free of most of the shadows, lead by the fierce power of Alal. Tyris=Flare assumes human form and grabs Moonleaf while Amora takes the smaller magical items the heroes have with them. The three transport to the Positive Material Plane where a sphere of light (from Wee Jas) sorts things out. Meanwhile, the three Shadow Knights, Tandris, Domar, and Clanndenngh, find their temporary bodies dissolving...
Alal grabs Joline and with Siouxsie retreat back to the spell-jamming hammership which the mystic of Athena then sails to Oerth...
Mission Accomplished!
