Continuing, the party (Idky, Torr w/Zayüß, Lowdog with Tensay, Woxin, Tomkin, and Xiang, Yavin, Ichi with JIP, and Arthur) encounter a large processional of people in pink & white (over 100). They move to the side of the road to let them pass. The procession looks to be of some important personage. The fighters form a barrier against the party as the procession passes. The group continues on after they get far behind.
Toward the evening, the group comes upon a camp of wagons. As they attempt to pass, arrows are shot at the ground in front of them. After a brief exchange, they are allowed to pass.
On day next day (4/24), the party passes through a village near the shukenja’s monastery and find the people are troubled by some “earthquake monsters” that are destroying their paddies. After so urging from Torr, the party decides to help the villagers out with the burrowing beetles.
They come upon the first one in the middle of a rice paddy. Arthur and Yavin, from in the air, spot the other two. Ichi and Torr rush off to those, while Lowdog runs up to kill the near one. They kill them in very short order. Lowdog notices that they have a sweet-smelling scent gland. The totemic warrior then harvests some of these.
As the group leaves the rice paddies, the villagers offer them their daughters. Idky accept the offer via a tongues spell, but directs them the care for the girls for them.
They continue on and arrive at the monastery that afternoon. It is a little hut. They notice a bunch of stone figures. They appear to be people turned to stone. They ring some bells around, and a little boy appears. Yavin telepathically communicates with him. The shukenja comes out and talks to them. He explains that Lowdog should not be there. Lowdog rashly draws another card from the deck of many things and Tensay turns on him. The shukenja casts hold monster on Tensay.
The shukenja can take Torr to a place where he can be cured and he can cure Lowdog. But the rest need to do a quest. He asks them to help him find out what is wrong in the land. They are to go to the island of Ikari to speak with the spirit of the island, Harooga. He explains that only those not of the land have a chance to find the answers he seeks, since they do not serve the Celestial Bureaucracy. The island is a couple of weeks away.
The rest of the party takes off with Ichi and Arthur on the broom and Yavin and Idky in their bird forms sitting on their shoulders. They stop in many villages to rest along the way.
On the 11th day (5/7), while they’re having lunch in a town, they hear screams. They jump up and go looking for the source. On the far side of town, they see a group of merchants who’ve been turned to stone. And there is a gorgon and another creature that looks like the front of a rhino with the tail of a snake, wreathed in mist.
Arthur levitates. The gorgon runs up and tries to gore Ichi. Yavin returns to human form. The rhino-like creature and casts seven magic missiles at Idky as he is returning to human form.
Arthur casts magic missiles at the rhino-like creature, who returns fire with two fire shurikens but misses.
Idky grabs the holy symbols from the gear Ichi dropped while Yavin attacks the gorgon psionically.
Ichi gets caught by a hold person from the rhino. Arthur kills the rhino with magic missiles. Idky casts free action on Ichi. The gorgon breaths and turns JIP to stone. Arthur kills the gorgon with magic missiles.
The heroes high-tail it out of the village to avoid the press of villagers on them, asking them to help with their loved ones who were turned to stone.
In the meantime, Lowdog and Torr get cured. Treblo shows up and takes Lowdog back to Oerth with him. Before leaving, Lowdog draws his last card from the deck of many things. He sees a gem within a gem and gets a choice: gain security, riches, family, home, stability; or a powerful worker. He chooses a powerful worker, and a firbolg (giant) runecaster appears to serve the totemic warrior.
The rest of the party arrives in a small coastal town five days later (5/12). They do some shopping and visit one of the local dojos. They come upon an argument between a Dragon Claw practitioner and a Climbing Star practitioner. They watch their fight as the onlookers place bets. The Dragon Claw easily defeats his opponent. A detect magic reveals that the Dragon Claws have some sort of spell on them. Yavin determines that they don’t have the monk ability to eject him from their minds.
After the battle, the fat Dragon Class champion claims the right to destroy the Climbing Star monastery if none of its students challenge him. Ichi accepts the Dragon Claw’s challenge. Idky casts an aid on monk as the fight begins. As Ichi bows to his opponent, the tubby martial artist dishonorably attacks him, and the fight is joined. Yavin notices that hits from Ichi that should stun or kill him don’t. He seems to regenerate damage or something. Ichi manages to break his hip, and he falls to the ground and stays there.
They speak with the dojo master, who offers to help them find some way to get to the island by boat. He also offers to let them stay in his monastery that night.
