Well, as usual it's a SNAFU situation. After limping back from their early-morning exit from the Cave-o-Doom (otherwise known as the Orcish Forward Command Base) and killing the three vamps, the party licked their wounds, napped and whiled the day away because SOMEONE (Dave) thinks nighttime raids on vampires are better than daytime attacks. (If they're sleeping it's too easy?)
We were all awaiting psycho-druid-boy (sorry, *psychic*) to recharge so we could wake him around 0100 hours, when we were to make an epic kamakaze rush back into Vampire/Demon Central. Around Midnight though, two soldiers rushed in to announce the camp was being overrun by shadows. The majority of the party (less I Sleep With Dogs and his dogs) rushed out to save the army. This was Helga, Dion, Svala, Minasti, Cliffy Anwar, Bob (in BVDs), River and Dawnstar (On-Star). We run up on 11, no, make that 12 shadows (and one less soldier for our side). The shadows divide into two groups, so we do too and proceed to whittle away at them. Cliffy notices a man floating up 30' above the scene, but is not in range to do much about it. After we got down to three shadows, two (2!) Balor drop out of the sky into our group and the floater announces himself as the Vampire (Lord) as two (2!) type III demons fly in as well and attack. The Vamp tells the demons to kill the priests, Slows the party (catching most of us) then casts Elfwad's Black Tentacles of Anime Porn of some-such and succeeds in mostly harming the demons.
The party finishes off the shadows then turns on the demons. The Vamp then casts Chain Lightning, again mostly damaging demons. (The party almost bit it, but it turns out the crystals with STRONG magic <pay attention here, Moonlight> we found are time crystals - Cliffy's broke when he got caught up in the chain lightning and it gave him a one-round rollback on reality).
Dion was mouthing off to the Vamp and a Balor the entire battle, eliciting another two Tentacle attacks on the party. Meanwhile, one Type II fumbled a mind blast and ended up locked onto one of the Balor. Oops! Anwar back-stabbed the dazed Type III for 60 points of damage (it fled) and the other Type III for 72 points of damage (killing it!). Now maybe the group will be less offensive to Anwar. Bob did his usual damage (structural) to the Balor until they fled. Svala did great, but never had any great opponents. Same goes for Minasti, Helga, and Cliffy.
River was a persistent pain in the non-mirror image for the Vamp, nailing him repeatedly until Dion was brought down. While the party was struggling with the tentacle mess, the Vamp swooped down and flew off with Dion's unconscious ass, forcing a wheezing and broken down remainder of what was once our party to mount a low-spell, low HP rescue mission to the Elder Vampire Lord's Lair of Demons in the middle of the night. Oh yeah, Runs with Fleas finally shows up after the mayhem and complains that we didn't wake him during our 14-round battle.
Huh. Like we weren't busy or anything.
Oh yeah, Dawnstar bit it then was tentacled to death in a real eccchi dream death. You can't rely on characters named after GM products anymore. Sigh. Well, thanks for the +2 axe anyway. (The player was really fun! I hope she comes back!)
Tune in next week for the rescue of the Sun-God's Chosen, or Holey Dion! He's a vampire Batman!
