The heros (Bob, Mikhail, Cliffy, River, Svala, Dion, Minasti, Anwar, Moonlight, Helga, Dajamira) finished dividing the treasures found during so far when Helga mysteriously vanished and Moonlight was suddenly there. Wierd.
After the division of spoils, the group charmed a prisoner orc and proceeded to interrogate the beast. They learned there are two additional levels below level 3, populated by three more Balrogs, some Nalfeshnee, at least one Marilith, maybe some Nabassu, some more trolls (giant trolls?), six vampires and all lead by a vampire lord wizard. Fun. The orc disclosed the group gain tremendous power from six orbs attended in a stone circle in the lowest level, but was unclear on the functioning of the orbs.
The group then went vampire hunting without really preparing. Dion let the orc lead the search for the first hidden vampire cubby-hole/coffin closet. The clumsy banging on the wall to find the hidden door alerted a prepared vampire, who jumped the group when the door was opened. A fight ensued, and the vampire was gassed. (We couldn't kill it, just knock it into vapor.) During the fight the cubby-hole was fire-walled, effectively taking out both the vampire and her many spellbooks. Oh yeah, the bitch vampire lightning-bolted the party (killing the charmed orc).
Mikhail cast detect magic and followed the gaseous vampire to the next nearest coffin closet. Half the party followed while the others watched while Dion cast a spell for an entire extra round! (Dion needs to better read how his spells work.) The half-party with Mikhail found the next coffin closet guarded (kinda) by two ill-prepared Orogs in full plate armor just as they were attacked on the flank from a group of five orcs and an orcish priest. The orcs were fried by Mikhail as Bob and Svala killed the priest.
Back in the other closet, Anwar and Minasti started to attack the orogs when the vampire from the other night who got away on level 2 popped out of a coffin in the back of the room. Anwar got charmed right off and told to kill the party to the best of his abilities. Daj then ran past Anwar to attack the orog on Anwar. For her troubles, she got a 27 point backstab from Anwar. Mikhail witnessed this and promptly telekinesed Anwar away from the party. Which would have been great if the vamp hadn't charmed Bob next and sent him to kill Mikhail (which Bob almost did). One-point Daj (who miraculously wasn't stunned from the back-stab) ran over and cast a minor globe of invulnerability while standing next to Bob, effectively removing the charm - well, kinda - it only works within five feet of Daj's person. Mikhail then telekinesed Anwar into the globe and the three huddled together so as not to kill the party. Meanwhile, Minasti took out his orog, the rest of the group gassed the vamp, Cliffy lightning-bolted the coffins, and Dion's Dust Devil captured the gassed vamps.
At this point, it became a mad dash to get the captured vampires up into the sunlight before the Dust Devil summoning spell expired. So, back they all ran. A few dozen skeletons, six female orcs, and another gaseous vampire capture later (with lessons hopefully again learned by Dion regarding his spells), the party made it up to the surface and into round three with the dregs of the evil army.
Final score: 2 vrock drive-offs, 2 dead trolls, three ex-gasts, more smoked skeletons, lots of friedpork orc and orog and five driven off shadows, the party reclaimed the entryway to the base. A very small breather was had before the party subdivided into a shadow mop-up crew and a spelunking make-sure-we-didn't-miss-loot-on-the-third-floor party. Both groups met with misfortunes.
On the shadow kill, the mission was a success and six shadows were slain, but if cost Dion a leg (for reals) after a triple critical with quadruple damage to his left leg. Come on, Eileen!
The base raid ended up with a timeless Svala after a Sepia Snake Sigil got her.
The beat-up group then regathered back to the army camp around 11am and divied-up the treasure found and plan to tackle the fourth and fifth floors in the evening after resting the day away.
The Royals better be thankful! Huh.
