On the morning of 617/6/22, Treblo teleports Stephan, Ichi, and ‘Beaver back to Oerth. The SkyMage leaves 'Beaver and Ichi off in Greyhawk, from where the shaman can firegate back to Tovag Baragu and from where Ichi can seek out Scarlet Brotherhood's Master of the North Wind in order to claim the title. Stephan, meanwhile, has roughly 30,000gp worth of treasure to pay for two regenerate spells. From the kindness of his heart, Treblo agrees to teleport the assassin-turned-mage from high priest to high priest in order to obtain the spell for him.
The rest of the group (Idky, Torr with Zayüß, Lowdog with Woxin the eagle, and Yavin) hangs out around Calvados waiting for Treblo and Stephan’s return. Over the course of the next three days, Torr makes it a real point to destroy every single ghouls and shadow within the city and surrounding area, creating a safe zone for the survivors of Sidra's evil. Lowdog, meanwhile, meets two new animal friends, a grizzly bear and a giant snake. Unfortunately, this menagerie means that the mage can’t teleport them all when he returns some three days later. Treblo, already a little tired of the "pleasures" of Charn, tells the group to meet him in Pommeville in about a week.
A conversation ensues about whether or not to stop in Fleurville to talk to Abatha, but Torr gets voted down by the group. Torr gets annoyed, but bows to the needs of the many (instead of following through on his threat "don't make me take my armor off and stop this train").
The group arrives in Pommeville after a train ride and walking for many days. Treblo meets them a day late there with Artec Artlen, Captain of the Army of Amberwood and The Archer of Oerth, and two others to join the group.
Holding hands, the entire group steps through the portal to Etheria. As Idky, the last in the chain and the one bearing the bloodstone amulet steps through, the gate shudders and flashes, turning in a bright, glowing, yellow pool of solid light. Charn is no longer visible on the other side. What this means, no one knows. Treblo pauses for a moment to quickly memorizes the area around the portal.
On Etheria, the air is bitter cold with a driving wind. The atmosphere is thick and opaque, with the sky appearing as a white haze near the horizon and shading to banded layers of fuchsia, mellon, tangerine, and sunflower as you look up. The air smells slightly of sulfur. The party is standing on the edge of a frozen wasteland of snow, a sort of narrow “Grand Canyon” with a tropical chasm below. About 30' above the level of the gate is the surface of Etheria -- a wasteland of blowing snow. Meanwhile, a constant rush of moist air blows up from the canyon, creating swirling eddies and obscuring long-range vision.
Three goblins are standing on guard with bows. They ask what the party is doing. Artec is able to converse with them and explains some of the situation to him as he talks to them. Yavin decides to communicate with them telepathically and finds out they’re from the king to escort them to their village, even though they don’t want to admit it. This is the only valley the goblins haven’t been kicked out of.
Treblo accompanies the group down to the valley in order to set up a teleport tower. It takes about eight hours to hike all the way down to the chasm floor and en route the stink of sulfur becomes powerful and pervasive, joined by a slight but of ammonia. On the trek down, a snow leopard leaps out and starts to follow Lowdog, his new animal companion.
One of the archers shoots an arrow down and it's incandesces like a Roman Candle. The group is brought before the Goblin King’s court. Yavin’s telepathy reveals that the king knows where some other portals are. The closest is through the lava caves, where the lavamen live. The cleric of Celestian sees imagery of a fiery and steam version of the Underdark connecting the various geothermal valleys.
The Goblin King offers to pay the group to kill a chimera or the lava dragon (who, according to legend, guards the portal). He also makes a deal with Treblo to get taught spells for money. Treblo agrees to stick around for a day to do so. The heroes spend the night, intent on seeking out the lava dragon (Torr is SOOO happy) in the morning.
