I've heard this thrown around a few times and i was just wondering what exactly it was. Is it the weapon counterpart to shield use?

Howdy Aaron, Uh, I'm the DM and I'm not sure what you're talking about.  I allow CERTAIN weapons to be used "shields" (+1 AC) with a specific proficiency. Usually the weapon must then be used two-handed, such as a spear. There are a couple of exceptions from fighting-styles, but you get the general idea.
