Prince Garlok, General Artec, Zevi, Mang, Saanau, and Esmerelda continued their assault on the orcish fort controlling the Jovian Falls pass. The heroes entered the lower levels where they encountered the ogre leader and the bulk of the regular orcish army. The ogre chief never landed a blow and Artec rained arrows into the orcish crossbowmen. More ogres joined the fray, but were quickly slaughtered by the heroes.
The melee split into two fronts with Garlok, Timrith, and Zevi controlling on side and Artec's arrows mainly holding the other. Saanau used her spells and magical staff to heroic effect and poor Mang followed around behind, still blind. After a while female orcs showed up, saw the fight and fled. About the same time the few remaining orcish militia also fled. As a result, Artec found his favorite enemies fleeing, so naturally he gave chase, shooting arrow after arrow into their backs.
The orcish militia, meanwhile, had circled around to attack Prince Garlok's group, but the heroes were too powerful and quickly slaughtered the lot. Artec shot most of the females and then came upon a small group cowering in the dark, begging for mercy and throwing their bodies over their children. Disgusted, Artec spared these, so six female orcs and four infants survived the battle.
The heroes searched the upper and lower levels after locking away the non-combatant orcs. In the upper halls, behind the three long passageways, Saanau's detect invisibility spell revealed several potential traps and Zevi confirmed that these holes were potentially quite dangerous. Esmerelda used a find traps to determine that the central hall was relatively safe. Saanau tried to knock the door at the end, but it wouldn't budge. Perplexed, Artec used his magical wakazashi to determine that there was a spell on the door. Finally, Mang, still-blind, walked right through it! Sure enough, it was an illusion...!
On the other side, however, were more orcish crossbowmen. Mang suffered several hits before the rest of the group charged to his rescue. Unfortunately, Timrith couldn't master his mind against the phantasmal door, so he couldn't join them and as a result, neither did Garlok. Esmerelda, meanwhile, held back. That's when the orcish witch-doctor lightning bolted the rest of the group!
Poor Zevi took the blast on the chin, losing several magical items. The party then savaged the orcs with Garlok using his acrobatics to flip into the combat and Timrith (finally!) joining as well.
In the end, the heroes completely captured the fort without too much trouble. In the morning, the forces of Furyondy invaded the valley and routed the orcish army there.
For their efforts, Garlok was promoted to Major and Zevi offered a commission as the Prince's Lieutenant, but the elf politely declined.
