On the morning of the 618/1/28 another group launched a further counter-attack against the kuo-toa dwelling near Klarr. This time the party consisted of Saanau (the elven Violet Witch of Klarr), Sky (the she-fire salamander), Dion (cleric of Apollo), Dobby (New Hero and elven archer), Jyolli (the Trickster and elven cleric of Erevan Ilserie, 'Arch-Bishop' of Greyhawk, the Black Witch of Klarr), Marc (beastmaster from another world), Dajamira (half-dryad ranger/mage), Corvin (dwarven fighter/cleric of Clangaddin), and Mikhail (teenaged timeshadowed druid-turned psi). The group entered the spring-outlet in the morning, with nearly everyone protected with water breathing and free action spells.
Marc encountered a glyph of warding that blasted him with electricity. Moving on, the group found naught but canabalized fishmen bodies littered the first two rooms. Later, Jyolli found another glyph leaving the second chamber but it went off while she was trying to remove it. That's when the room filled with 33 skeletons... Dion vaporized large swathes of the undead, but right on cue a pair of monitors swept down from the next room and nearly killed Jyolli. The heroes, however, kept it together and slaughtered the kuo-toa, Mikhail using his psionic powers to take one captive. Sky and Dion escorted this fishman to the surface as the heroes continued...
They continued toward the fishman city, only to discover that a section of wall had liquified, flowed across the passage, and resolidified, blocking the party's way completely. Corvin cast silence 15'r and Jyolli transformed her arms into umber hulk claws, digging a passage through.
The party continued to the edge of the city where they encounter another three dozen skeletal kuo-toa plus four monitors. The party had a fierce battle and just as they started to gain the upper hand (thanks to Saanau's lightning bolts) the fishmen priests rained hold persons and a flame strike into the heroes. Saanau returned the favor with a fireball of her own and Daj followed this up with a slow effectively taking them almost all out. Saanau then tried a web as more foes arrived, but it proved to be not much more than a nuisance to the slippery fish-monsters.
Marc was stunned by a monitor and the party's cohesion started to come apart. Dobby, however, rained leathal arrows into every potent fighter while Mikhail used a psi blast to buy time and then jumped into the melee with psionically-enhanced strength. Jyolli tried a number of faerie forms and venoms to no avail although a couple of confusion spells kept the kuo-toa from simply overwhelming the heroes.. Corvin, however, proved quite doughty and held the party's fighting line, keeping some structure to the melee. This was important as the fishmen made use of Daj's magical arrows, including her arrow of petrification (luckily, it missed Corvin!).
The heroes began to gain the upper hand when the three surviving priests slipped through the web spell. Dobby shot one down, Daj took the second, and Marc tackled the leader. Meanwhile, Jyolli (in the form of a quickling) darted too-and-fro in order to keep the remaining monitor busy... The kuo-toan leader stunned himself and the heroes vanquished nearly all the rest. That's when the reinforcements arrived. More fishbeings slipped through the webs. Some focused on saving the now-unconscious (and acid arrowed) fish-ruler while the rest fought the heroes.
In the end, the heroes drove the kuo-toa back long enough to retreat back to the surface. After quite a bit of healing magic from Stephanos, Todar, and Martello, plus psionic healing from Mikhail and a couple of kisses from Jasmine and even goodberries, the heroes are at:
Saanau: 44 of 53
Sky: full (61)
Dion: full (53)
Dobby: full (50)
Jyolli: full (41)
Marc: 57 of 61
Daj: full (45)
Corvin: 70 of 86
Mikhail: full (39)
Eeps for everyone were 451 xps
Jyolli and Dobbie get 6338 xps more
Saanau, Marc, Daj, Corvin, and Mikhail get 9507 xps more
The question is: do you want to send another (alternate) team to mop up the fishmen while they're still reeling from the previous assualt or not?[/color]
