[glow=red,2,300]Death of a God[/glow]
The heroes (Ichi, Maedhros, Torr, Idky, Squattingbeaver, Lowdog, and Yavin) plus François, Christien, Narrissa, Dani, and Turquoise Rain set about tending to their wounds, searching the bodies of the dead zombies, and gathering lost treasures from the previous human party. Maedhros, François, Christien, and Narrissa were in comas caused by the sudden drain and return of so much life energy. 'Beaver notices Turqoise Rain taking a star-shaped maroon stone from the body of the powerfully-built Flan man whilst tending to the wounded. Meanwhile, Lowdog took several swings at the runestone before shattering it. Unlike other runestones the heroes have encountered, this one's orbiting "cloud" of rhion stones were almost entirely gray, burnt out ones, with most reduced to a rubble-like state.
Within a minute of shattering the runestone, however, the heroes were not alone. Yeenoghu, the demon-lord of gnolls, along with three vrock teleported to the attack! The demon prince was enraged; the humans had destroyed his treasure on his new world. Snarling, he attacked, only to suffer a serious hit from a still-enlarged, still-hasted Lowdog. Yeenoghu gave better than he got, however; two of his flail's balls landed, seriously wounding the totemic warrior and paralyzing him! The vrock, however, were largely balked by the party's multiple protection from evil 10' radius spells.
That's when the heroes counter attacked!
Ichi struck two of the vrock, stunning each. Torr also chopped into Yeenoghu with his holy sword. The demon-lord of ghouls responded with howl and a flash of green as his eyes shifted red. Then a crippling fear spell aimed to catch nearly the whole party surged out of him, but as the effect washed over the paladin, the rhion stone in Torr's holy sword swallowed the magic effect. Idky removed the spell on Lowdog and Torr continued slashing at the demon-lord of gnolls. Ichi finished one of his previous vrock foes and another slammed it's head against Torr's shield, stunning itself. Things started to look bleak for the demons...
Which is when Yeenoghu summoned his minions -- 10 gnoll champions appeared to do battle with the heroes! Before the heroes could speak a word, however, Ichi called out "I got this!" and continued to slaughter gnolls as he had vrocks! Nice!
Yavin scored a mental hit on the demon-lord of gnolls as well, shattering his mental defenses. Torr struck him once physcially, wounding him seriously. But, before the demon prince could teleport away to safety, Lowdog, now recovered thanks to his haste swung his vorpal scimitar and sliced completely through Yeenoghu's neck. With a thud, the demon-lord of gnolls and ghouls head feel to the ground behind his body, ending his corporeal existence on Charn...
But gnolls continued to materialize, the demon prince's spell still lingering. Dani found himself surrounded by the constantly-appearing hyena-men as the party's various protection from evil spells limited where these summoned creatures could materialize. The heroes cut through the lot, including the near-dozen who tried to surrender when they saw the fate of their god. In the end, Dani was hacked down, but the heroes bandaged up the orcish warrior once they slaughtered all FIFTY gnolls.
Tired and covered in the thick layer of blood coating the room, the heroes sifted through Yeenoghu's treasure. It appeared as if the demon-lord had raided a treasure vault and worn the most portable of treasures as he was decked out in chains, medallions, rings, and even the crown of Calvados. Yeenoghu had set three rhion stones into the crown -- an orange cube, a deep purple prism, and an incandescent blue prism. Through the intercession of Turquoise Rain, the party learned from the spirits that the demon prince had "powered" the stones such that they were supercharged and would remain so if taken by Yeenoghu's slayer...
The party moved across the street from the banc back to the l'hôtel where they spent the night. In the morning, the heroes divided the treasure, although 'Beaver and the folk of Calvados got into a squabble about the fate of the crown and some of the magical items. Turquoise Rain went as far as to cry a little. In the end, however, the party took the vast majority of the loot and the now-recovered Maedhros used his read magic to scan the Book of Mitu (a treaty on all SORTS of necromantic spells!) as well as three reductions to remove the rhion stones from the crown. Except for these four spells and that François is still recovering from his soul-draining experience, the heroes are all ready on the morning of the 27th to take on the skyship above the town...
