On 617/12/24, Kephalonia transports a party of adventurers (Isaac, Sabuto, Jamal, William, Jasmine, Saanau, Mang, and Aris) for Jasmine to the Island of Rumelia. There, the heroes plumb the depths of an ancient temple build before the rise of human civilization on Oerth...
The heroes open the plastered-over doors and work together to clear the rubble-filled stairway. The heroes descend deep into the earth where they find a massive audience chamber. Four bronze doors line the walls on either side while a dais on the far end holds a single, massive chunk of rose-quartz carved into a throne. Aris uses a spell to determine that this is the Throne of the K'thoi King of Oerth, built 16,000 years ago out of rhion stones mined from another world.
The heroes set about searching the doors to the east, finding a series of dead-end passages. After an hour, they finally encounter a room with an ochre painting on one wall. Shortly thereafter, the party battles a particularly powerful lizard man (Aris later supplies that it was actually a lizard king).
Back in the Audience Hall, the heroes then find themselves battling a hasted earth elemental. Saanau takes control of the creature and Aris spies an invisibile winged lizard man flying away...that tosses a fireball at the party before moving through solid stone!
The heroes then start playing cat-and-mouse with this creature for the next 20 minutes or so. It summons invisible stalkers to harrass the group, lobbing fireballs before diving through stone walls. Aris unleashes a single volley of magic missiles on the creature, but subsequent spells fail. Finally, Aris uses a potion of telekinesis to prevent the mummified krolli from flying away, allowing Sabuto to pound on it. After taking a fierce pounding the K'thoi King nearly kills Aris with a fiend fire, stunning him and allowing the creature to escape.
Saanau tries to touch the throne, only to discover that it is a soul-receptacle for the lizard-lich. Possessing the elven wizardess' body, the monster unleashes more spells, before being knocked out. Later, Sabuto tries to smash the throne, creating a number of cracks before also being possessed.
With most of the party nearly dead, the winged lizard mummy attacks again. Its touch causes rot, preventing those wounded from benefitting from magical healing. Once William and Jasmine drop, it's up to Aris to use potions to revive the fallen. It's only through the most creative use of their strengths that the heroes miraculously survive. Amazingly, Sabuto (taken out earlier by his friends) is healed up and manages to kiai his eagle claw strike while Aris telekinetically holds the mummy-lich. It's material body is destroyed!
Saanau then tries to lightning bolt the throne, only to discover that the King is very much still alive as it attempts to possess her! The heroes fall back to finish off this reptilian mage another day...!
