Howdy folks, I've been asked to submit the rune-caster and transmuter classes for publication now. I think both are in pretty good shape, but would love to have some input (*HINT, HINT*!). You can find them at: www.geocities.com/buddhabear_sj/gaming/classes.htmlThanks! David (who's never seen a powerful member of either class in his world!)

Umm, there is no link to the runecaster class. I know that when I first read the article at your house, it was confusing figuring out the rune-system. It also has overly brief/incomplete descriptions for the runes you provide, and some without any at all (Catch-Rune, for example).

maybe a sort of limited polymorph self, limited to regular animal. then giant animal/strange animal. then dumb monster.
ect. with progresion like the summoner spell that lets you do the same thing

I only have one question....
Relating to the class i.e. changing people into other things it works I just want to know if you thought of it used this way.
To regrow a leg you need a what? 15th lvl cleric? or.....
A 10th lvl transmuter
Flesh Shape -- Ran: 1", Dur: perm, Area: one target with less volume than 1 cubic foot/lvl. Allows the caster to reshape the flesh of living creatures. Unwilling targets gain a saving throw. To experience this spell is very painful. For every cubic foot effected, 1d6 of damage is taken. By use of this spell, the caster can give an elf wings or a bumblebee the horns of a bull.

HOLY CRAP IMPROVED STRENGTH IS POWERFUL!!! I mean, um, ehm... Thats a strong spell, even with the short duration. Its a boss-fight type spell.
Other than that, it looks pretty good.

Thanks, Jeff. I didn't write improved strength by the way -- I lifted it from a published book. My version was actually QUITE a bit weaker...but it's important to be consistent.
Any other critiques or comments?

First a question... Where are the casting times?
Second a typo...2nd lvl affect normal water...4th paragraph it says "affect normal wind"
Third a correction... I think we talked about this on tuesday and you said all skin spells can be used with armor... Barkskin still says it can't Forth a comment... I think Beast form should be third... It is to strong for second lvl because you can just change any creature that fails it's polymorph save to a pot belly pig and slaughter it. With that said it's a save or die spell at second level.
RAWR!!! My next one will make it past the first fight, first attack, first death next time!!!!

Howdy Eric, Thank you VERY much for the feedback! First -- fixed. There is a line in all the OTHER classes write-ups about this. But transmuters was the first one I did, so the line is missing. Second -- fixed. Bingo! I stole the spell and reworked it for water instead of wind. Seems there were typos in the original too! I've fixed those too. Third -- uh, where? I've made the text as explicit as possible "The various "skin" spells do allow for the use of armor. " Fourth -- thinking about it, you are correct. I've swapped beast form and beast parts (buffing should be easier than slaughtering!). I wanted a progression of polymorph other and I thought that transmuters should get the spell earlier than other casters, but with further thought, polymorph SELF is earlier but polymorph OTHER can be SOOO deadly that I'm going to leave it as fourth level (just like I left fireball at third level for evokers). Very good suggestion, Eric, thanks! As for what happened to Robert...you're NOT alone... On the Arabia game, we did a few low-level games to build up the mid-level crew. In the course of three games, I introduced Rahiim the kahin (same as Tauresh, sorta like a "desert druid" kinda) who died in his second melee. The next game I introduced Butch. Butch was a shark-werelord and accidentally transformed during his first battle (on land, of course!) after the ghouls ripped off his arm (sharks don't need arms!). The third game, I made this kick-ass, man-bashing, domineering amazon named Alexa. She told the "poor weak men" that she'd protect them from the big bad monsters, including the ghouls. I put a TON of role-play into her, since I'd been so frustrated with Rahiim and Butch. She died due to a critical hit in the first blow of the first melee in the first room. And to add insult to injury, Butch (now a ghoul) came over and ate her corpse while the party fell back...! 8-(
