The heroes (Ichi, Maedhros, Idky, Squattingbeaver, Lowdog, Yavin, Robyndella with Meldenya, and Widdershins the itemized unicorn) passed several large chambers as they plunged ever-deeper into the bowels of the Pink Palace. The group met up with 12 skeletons -- Maedhros destroyed five and the party hacked apart the rest.
Two levels lower, the group was passing by yet-another huge chamber when they ran afoul of 30 skeletons ahead of them. Only Ichi, Lowdog, and Robyn (thanks to Meldenya) could see the six shadows lurking to the side...and only Robyndella could react to the bat-winged, four-armed, taloned nightmarish invisible creature with them!
Maedhros managed to destroy 11 of the skeletons but then the formerly-invisible creature slashed him with its wicked claws. The half-elf fell and the creature became a dark elf! Robyndella unleashed a lightning bolt, but the monster laughed it off. Luckily the two shadows next to it were not quite so lucky. Lowdog found himself locked in combat with two shadows, Idky with one, and the last stuck Yavin from behind. Ichi started smashing skeletons at the front of the melee and Squattingbeaver called down a prayer.
The nightmare creature sprang at Robyn, slashing her with its claws and becoming not just ANY drow, but a fully drowic version of her half-brother, Malok! Another lightning bolt from the half-elven princess vaporized two shadows and badly wounded the creature-turned-drow. Squattingbeaver took Ichi's position while Idky turned his back on the shadow battling him so as to keep the Malok-entity engaged and unable to cast spells. It cost the cleric of Fharlaghn more of his strength and life-force from the shadow. Ichi, meanwhile wasn't able to hurt the nightmare-thief and had to fall back to his magical dagger.
The monster unleashed a volley of magic missiles that seriously wounded Robyn, despite her magic resistance from her pseudo dragon. Lowdog destroyed one of his shadows and Yavin used the last lightning bolt from his magical ring to partially clear the hallway of skeletons. Robyndella drew her enchanted axe of meteoric gold and wounded her brother's "twin".
Another volley of magic missiles nearly dropped archer/mage; only the magical stamina her axe lent her allowed Robyndella to remain on her feet. Skeletons, meanwhile, were overwhelming the front ranks as Squattingbeaver proved an easy target for the undead. Thinking quickly, Robyndella pulled away from her foe (thanks to Ichi engaging it too) and unleashed another lightning bolt, this one down the hall so that only a single skeleton remained. Yavin, now free from combat, healed Robyn. Squattingbeaver smashed the final corporeal undead. Idky continued to flail against the last shadow. Maedhros finally got back to his feet after trying to cast a spell he no longer understood and turn in the name of a god he didn't remember. His sword missed and while Ichi's hit, it caused no damage. Grinning, the creature blasted Robyn with magic missiles again and she nearly dropped!
The shaman and cleric again healed the young woman who mirror imaged herself. Neither Lowdog nor Ichi's weapons proved capable of harming the monster -- it took the time, instead, to unleash yet more magic missiles at the half-elf. She got off a hit before collapsing.
Lowdog scooped up her axe and went into combat. Yavin managed to mentally stun the monster. The cleric of Celestian as well as the shaman then healed Robyndella while Idky still fought the last shadow. Lowdog struck with dazed drow-like-creature, wounding it. The monster grinned and resumed it's four-armed form, badly slashing Lowdog who collapsed.
Squattingbeaver moved to relieve Idky before the cleric of Fharlanghn fell. He and Yavin further healed Robyndella, again on her feet. The shaman took out the last shadow while Ichi tried to keep the creature engaged. Lowdog stood up, somehow overcoming the creature's ability to drain mental activity. Robyndella managed to let loose a single arrow blessed by the shaman, killing the monster.
Badly wouned, the heroes tended their wounds and headed toward the surface. There, Robyndella put together a plan where the group to fly to the safety of the daylight with little exposure. And so, five minutes later, safely in the sunshine, the group set up camp. Within minutes, Moorak appeared with Rhanée and Saanau. The trio passed out some curative spells and otherwised aided the heroes with magic. Moorak explained that he had been trying to scry Robyndella all morning, but couldn't get a clear picture before.
The heroes rested and in the early evening heard a noise to the edge of their campsite. They spied a strange, fawn-like creature with red eyes, purple skin, white fur, a scorpion-like tail, and a forked tongue. The creature identified himself as Cornelius and explained that he had come from "reality" in order to destroy a group of abducted nightmare creatures here in "dreamworld". The heroes went back and forth with him, but he maintained that his was the true world and this was merely the result of the bored fantasies of too many stagnant minds from his world. Cornelius' goal was to destroy the "airships" first and the conversation regarding chosing targets got a tad heated.
In the end, the heroes all spent the night safely in the company of Cornelius and Widdershins (who would NOT be accompanying the group in the morning). In the morning, everyone was fully rested, save Lowdog (67 of 79 hps). Robyndella, Meldenya, Maedhros, Squattingbeaver, and Idky all have stoneskins.
