The heroes (Ichi, Idky, Squattingbeaver, Lowdog, Yavin, Robyndella with Meldenya, and Widdershins) continued their trek away from Fleureville and toward Luxor. Two days passed without incident as the heroes left the flooded city and river-valley behind them. In the morning of 617/3/2, the group spied a group of "children" hunting up ahead. Getting closer, the heroes weren't quite sure what the "children" were, so Squattingbeaver called out to them. The 13 veggiepygmies then charged with their five thornies! The shaman tried to confuse a good chunk of them, but they instead just charmed HIM! In an instant, the heroes were surrounded. And almost as quickly, Squattingbeaver was on the ground and nearly dead, while the confused plant-creatures were mindlessly attacking him anyway!
At this point, Idky (who'd been in the brush "relieving" himself), stepped out and held most of the creatures threatening Squattingbeaver. Combined with Ichi's self-sacrificing attempts to get other veggiepygmies attention, this saved the shaman's life. Working in concert and with numerous hol dplant spells, the heroes turned the tables and defeated the monsters. Later in the afternoon, Widdershins stepped into a nest of vipers, but Lowdog talked the snakes down. That evening, four gargoyles attacked, but were quickly slain.
Around dawn, the heroes awoke to a buzz -- 13 giant dragonflies were out hunting and seemed to have decided the heroes were food! An insect barrier from the shaman kept the 4' long bugs at bay and allowed Robyn time to unleash a fireball, killing almost half of them. Two breached the spell, but were quickly put down and using missile fire, the others were similarly dealt with. After breakfast, Squattingbeaver cast bind totem for Lowdog, allowing him to befriend one of the vipers. Later, the group encountered another group of hunting veggiepygmies -- 13 more and 7 thornies, but a fireball cut their ranks by a third and then the heroes made quick work of the others. In the late afternoon, the heroes stumbled into 9 plant-covered zombies, but one more fireball took care of nearly all of them -- with the aid of a few melee strikes.
Three more days passed uneventfully and as the heroes go to sleep, the notice the terrain has definitely turned drier, less overgrown, flatter, and there appear to be farming fields in the distance...
