Dear Journal,
Today I went to meet my first adventuring group. It was different then I had expected. I expected a warrior, a wizard, and a cleric like myself, but what I got was much different. There is a scimitar wielding man who doesn’t talk much named Conrad. There was a Tiger named Gilgamesh who talks though a bird named mouth, I’ve never seen anything like it. There is a Paladin named Kirby who is kind and understands the path of following ones god. There is a cat-man thing, He seems ok but is a little slow, sort of like the guards back at the temple. There is a fighter type named Olaf with all kinds of scars on his body. He seems ok but the scars are a little scary. There is a small girl named Djann, she’s very mean, She’s just like all the girls in school that never would talk to me. The is also a Doctor Alexander with us, he’s been to school also so I made quick friends with him it seemed. Last and from what I can tell least is Baru. I would have thought that a gladiator would be a little more noble in some ways since he is free it seems. I was wrong.
Well, we headed out into a desert looking for a cave that Kirby had been to before. It was so exciting I kept wishing that a painter would show up to draw our pictures, I looked like a shining star in the desert in my new armor. The walk was long and tiring, no one ever told me how much people walk around without even a respite for lunch.
That night Kirby said we were a few hours from the cave and we decided to stop and make camp for the night. It was much more interesting then when I would camp out in the fields behind the stables, we had a fire and everything. They even had me stay on guard for one shift in the fading hours of the day. When I was relieved of my watch by Conrad and went to bed was when the trouble came.
I awoke suddenly from a cry that was sent up by Conrad. I wish you could sleep in plate mail cause I was scared and wanted it right about now. Only a few of us got up at first so I helped them make a fighting wall like I’ve read about in books. There were eight orcs coming right at us. I had 3 attack me then some fell asleep and the fighters were able to take them off me and I went to go tend the wounded since I didn’t have my armor. I noticed Djann was not moving so I bandaged her wounds. That’s when a orc came over and bopped me on the head and the world went black.
When I woke back up with Kirby standing over me the doctor was screaming at people to stop killing them, and I offered my assistance while he was crouched over Olaf, there was so much blood. After he was done doing surgery he let me know that magic healing was the only way to save him so I called on the power of Osirus and healed him. I also went and healed the girl Djann, but when she woke she started yelling at me to never touch her again, I felt sorry for her she must have had a hard childhood. I passed out the good berries I had brought with me from the Church and just about everyone took some. I used 36 of my 50 berries. Then my pouch with the berries started to open on its own, I could not fathom it. Something must have cursed my bag. I tried to re-close it and it untied itself again. I got really scared at that point and under the protest of the group and after Baru threw one of my books on the ground, I took my bag wrapped it in a blanket and put it in my backpack never to touch it again until I could have a high priest see if it is cursed.
We went to sleep again but I was nervous the whole night. When I awoke I saw Conrad meditating and a large pile where Doctor Alexander politely buried the dead orcs for me. We headed to the cave, for glory, adventure, and treasure just like the books.
When we walked in I felt as if we were in the books, The walls were dirty and the floors dusty. Mom would have went crazy having to see this. We all decided that we should go down the stairs. We formed a line and I was put in the forth position, behind the paladin and rune caster, but in front of the scimitar guy and the doctor. All of a sudden the clang and bang of steel started. There were two dog looking dragonish things fighting Kirby. I heard the little girl say something and a dragon dog fell asleep. Then from up front came a blast of fire. I held my shield up like I heard other people did in books and the fire just singed me a bit. Conrad came charging past me and I tended the wounds on myself. The little girl started yelling at me again for the few berries I had left but I once again explained they were cursed, I wish they would listen the first time. She then said something that shocked me, she was the one that was opening my bag with some type of spell. I was dumbstruck! My own group members were trying to steal from me! I thought I had been extremely generous with the berries giving everyone who asked for them berries. Then she said that Baru was going to pay HER for them! I spent a lot of gold on them and my own teammate was going to rob me. I realized at that time that she cares nothing about other people and her lawless nature was going to get us all killed. I took the berries out and let her know she could have just asked, I gave the tiger some and dropped the rest of the bag on the ground. I grabbed my flail and headed into battle!
No one even fell down this time! We all fought bravely and in the end triumphed.
I sat down for a moment to write this down as to not forget but we must move on now. With a thieving girl, a cat that wont let anyone else use the magic weapon, a gladiator that reminds me of the school bullies, and a doctor that can’t leave the dead alone. Oh adventuring never seemed this stressful.
