While Ichi bathed in the blood of the black dragon, Torr gave the formerly-blind monk pointers about how to gain some measure of the dragon's powers. As a result, Ichi thoroughly washed himself in the slightly-acidic fluids and then ate the eyes of the dragon. A few moments later, Ichi, a man who'd known darkness almost his entire life began to notice even newer clarity and power to his vision, gaining ultravision and 120' infravision (nice roll, Ray!).
Meanwhile, Lowdog set about skinning the dragon's carcass, instructing Squattingbeaver in the process. The totemic warrior immediately noticed that the dragon was a dragoness and she wore six rings on her wing-claws...
This left Idky and Yavin to sort through the massive hillock of coins and treasure. Numbering about 30,000 pieces, the dragon's nest is more than 15' wide and 25' long as well as several feet tall in the middle. Worried that any attempt to detect magic would be thwarted by so much coinage, the pair began to sift through the pile and separate out gems, jewelry, and artwork, although a large chunk of the coins were slowly being absorbed into a large "scab" formed form the dragoness' blood.
The pair uncovered a silver scroll case and seven potions, as well as a pair of daggers, and dozens of jewelry items. As Ichi finished his bloody bath, Idky and Yavin got quite messy, as the dragon's blood had flowed over much of the remaining coinage. As the clerics reached the heart of the mound, they discovered a pair of large, leathery eggs. Torr's sword and Ichi's clairvoyance both confirmed that each egg contained a living dragon fetus.
Several party members suggested killing and/or eating the eggs. Torr asked if he could attempt to raise one and turn it to good, as his father had done. The heroes considered the ramifications of this and considered having Squattingbeaver firegating back to Black Robe, but decided to hold off until the morning as the shaman suddenly realized if both eggs were living and laid no more than three months ago...then the dragoness must have a mate...!
The group decided that they should be ready for a fight and set about searching through more of the treasure in search of magical items. They discovered that two of the dragoness' rings are magical, as is the contents of the silver scroll, both daggers, all seven potions, two pearls, and a bag. The bag turned out to be a very large bag of holding and the heroes stuffed about 2/3s of the dragoness' horde into the bag. They also tested the potions out, finding some strange new elixirs unknown on Oerth. The pearls and daggers remain a mystery. Ichi but on the dragon's bronze ring set with runes and emeralds while Squattingbeaver donned the silver ring with a jagged lightning motif.
That's when the shaman started acting quite...uh, contrary. Realizing the problem, the heroes quickly overpowered 'Beaver, Torr holding him with some help from Lowdog and the others wrapping the hapless Lakota in rope after Ichi knocked him unconscious. Idky became more concerned and suggested checking the scrolls. Moving away from the bulk of the group (save Torr who didn't wish to abandon his friend), Idky broke the seal on the strange silver tube. Within were three scrolls...the first bearing the curse[/b]
"You wanted to see my treasure and monsters from other worlds, little thief? Well, here you go!"
With that six monsters appeared surrounding poor Idky -- a green rooster (cockatrice), a mottled purple worm, a shadowy wraith, a frost giant, a fire giant, and a young cloud giant!
Torr attacked the fire giant, but missed. Ichi landed a blow on the purple worm and Lowdog cut into the frost giant. Yavin unleashed a lightning bolt, catching the cockatrice, frost giant, and wraith. And Idky tried to side-step the whole mess!
The fire and cloud giants attacked the purple worm while the frost giant mashed Yavin although the wraith missed. The cockatrice pecked Idky, but he did not turn to stone. Lowdog moved to defend Yavin, who lay on the ground. The totemic warrior killed the frost giant. Torr pivoted from the fire giant, killing first the cockatrice and then the wraith. This left only the fire and cloud giants and the purple worm. Ichi tackled the worm, but couldn't finish it off, even with the giants' help. The cloud giant, meanwhile, warned the heroes NOT to attack his "cousin" the fire giant or he would be forced to defend his kin. Idky understood this thanks to his comprehend languages spell.
The purple worm bit Ichi once and then the combined might of the giants and heroes finished it off. The fire giant to turned to start in on the party, nearly killing Yavin, so the cloud giant tackled him and knocked the pair into the water. The heroes regrouped, trying to tend their wounded.
Each time the fire giant got out of the water, the cloud giant tried to reason with him, but also warned the party not to hurt his kin. The fire giant managed to toss a boulder at Yavin and Idky(which Torr intercepted with his body) as well as swat Lowdog with one of the dragon's legs, but in the end the cloud giant got him to agree to a truce. During all this fighting, Idky down the potion of mana and used it to cast remove curse, freeing Squattingbeaver from the influence of the dragoness' ring. The shaman cast tongues and helped talk down the situation.
With 'Beaver's help, the cloud giant, Elosium, got the fire giant, Lothar, to calm down, although Lothar claimed all the dragon's treasure he could carry. Elosium told his cousin to give the loot back in exchange for the heroes' aid leaving these underwater caverns, but Squattingbeaver said the giant could keep the coinage IF he helped defend the party overnight. The giants agreed and settled in to rest a while.
Over the course of many hours, Yavin psionically healed most of the group while Idky and Squattingbeaver passed out most of their healing spells to all, including the two new jotens, so some hours later, the heroes' (and giants') status is:
