Dion, Dajamira, and Marc couldn't figure out any method to trick Mikhail into seeing the Interdicted Temples beyond the massive bronze portals Daj had rendered invisible, so the group (Dion, Marc with King, Queen, and Bronson, Mikhail with Samhain, Sky, Daj, Pepper, Semi, Elric, and Alec) decided to slaughter more evil monsters on the second level of the Temple of Elemental Evil. The group came upon a warren of bugbear and while Semi, Pepper, Daj, and Alec charged through the front, Dion and Sky thwarted a bugbear-ambush from behind. Unfortunately, the monsters nearly killed the cleric of Apollo and even after Marc sicced his wolves on the bugbear, the heroes guarding the rear nearly fell -- only Sky and Marc (barely) remained on their feet. But Elric proved that his mental powers could find magical items as the bugbear leader's sword simply refused to warm up, despite the psi's repeated attempts at molecular agitation!
Fairly badly wounded, the heroes chose to leave the dungeon and camp in the woods before making another run on the Interdicted Temple the next day. As they left, a large group of massive ravens began to circle the heroes, but a few words from Marc sent the avians on their way.
In the morning, Mikhail realized his teleportive abilities had grown and transported the party's silver as well as Helga-the-ice-statue to Klarr. While the boy was gone, Treblo appeared with Cliffy and the gladiator, Baru. Treblo passed out a few strength spells before leaving. Mikhail returned in the late morning and the party headed back to the Temple in the early afternoon.
There, the heroes entered the complex without incident. While heading down to the first level, Semi noticed a group of five ghouls ahead and charged. He had a dozen of his ribs badly broken for his troubles. Dion, however, saved the paladin's life, destroying most of the ghouls while Pepper and Dajamira took out the last two. After a cure serious wounds from the cleric of Apollo, the paladin of Athena was able to continue...
The party took a brief detour to the Temple of Earth, noticing that a blood sacrifice had been preformed since the previous day -- clearly the group was no longer sacred to Apollo... The party then split into two groups so that Mikhail could teleport them past the rune-covered bronze doors. In the first group was Semi, Dajamira, Alec, Cliffy and Baru while the second group included Samhain, Dion, Sky, Marc, Bronson, and Pepper. The plan was for Alec to use a lighten load on both groups so as to decrease their weight. Then, Mikhail could load a person or two into his and Cliffy's bag of holding and teleport the rest in. In order to see where to go, Dajamira again turned the bronze door invisible and Dion used telepathy to give Mikhail a clear mental image of what lay beyond, for Mikhail could not bear the light of the silver runes. Meanwhile, Marc left King and Queen in the room of the bugbears as they were too big to transport.
The plan worked in principle. Mikhail easily teleported the first group into the strangely-light, fungus-covered place. He sat down to rest and memorize the location for his next two teleports. Over the course of the next hour, first one then another black pudding oozed into the room, nearly killing both Semi and Baru. After the heroes finished off the second slime-monster, the party decided NOT to revive Baru but send him out to stay with the wolves as he was clearly too week to accompany the group (to the indistinct voice of the DM saying "I toldja so!").
Mikhail ported to the arcane library where the second group waited. The group detoured to the bugbear lair in order to drop Baru with King and Queen, only to discover both wolves slain and partially skinned by three ogres who'd happened upon them. The battle was brief and one-sided and the ogres paid for slaying Marc's animal companions. Marc, still wounded from the previous day and clearly angry, disregarded his agreement to NOT wear his magical ring of necromancy, putting it on without stealth at the end of the battle. The heroes didn't say anything, although several noticed.
Dion used an aid to restore Baru to consciousness and Mikhail shared a single draught of invisibility potion, telling the gladiator that he had to venture to the surface alone and leave -- he clearly couldn't wait unconscious in the dungeon and was too weak to continue. Finally, ready, Mikhail teleported the rest of the second group into the Interdicted Temples...
