The heroes (Ichi, Torr, Maedhros, Kyron and Dart, Squattingbeaver, and Lowdog) got up in the morning and after checking their wounds, hiked back to the ruins of Chateauenfer. Lowdog had had a dream the night before of the location of Kyron's magical axe; in it, he saw the weapon fall all the way to the ground and where it now lay. At the edge of the city, Maedhros cast a fly on Kyron who carried Squattingbeaver while everyone else climbed on brooms and the heroes flew toward their target.
Not a minute later, however, Squattingbeaver spied the numerous lost souls trapped by the runestone. Among them, waiting for the party, was Idky! The priest of Fahrlanghn explained that she could not move on, but did know where the runestone was. Indeed, it was guarded by Lamashtu, the badly wounded demoness the heroes had nearly destroyed, as well as another spook and a horde of undead in the basement of a building largely shattered by the fall of the skyship. The heroes agreed to follow Idky's spirit to this location and then recover the hand axe.
En route, the party had a very brief battle with three battered gargoyles before coming upon four harpies perched on the ruins Idky spoke of. Only Squattingbeaver fell victim to the monsters song and the heroes fairly quickly slaughtered the lot, though Ichi had trouble fighting amid the ruins. Afterward, the party turned six and destroyed five more ghouls as well as turned five more shadows. Thinking the worst was past, the heroes debated what to do next -- enter and go after the runestone or recover the magical hand axe first. It's at that moment Lamashtu appeared!
Ichi and Torr charged her, while everyone else fell back. The blind monk confirmed the demoness was merely an illusion and Torr stood within her. Suddenly, the REAL Lamashtu appeared in perfect health. She taunted the heroes that she'd been aware of Idky and let the spirit see what she wanted him to see! The demoness moved to kill Lowdog, but the heroes were too fast and despite his wounds the Flan warrior survived. Torr and Ichi smashed into the demoness once each and she returned the attack, focusing on the paladin. Ichi hit her again, but badly damaged she fought on. Finally, two more hit brought Lamashtu to the bring of death...and she teleported away!
The heroes tended their wounds and moved on, seeking Kyron's hand axe. Maedhros turned a pack of ghouls and then sent a lightning bolt to deal with a pack of ravenous jackalweres. The heroes finished the monsters and then found the rough location of the weapon. After a quick dowsing, Squattingbeaver and Lowdog began to dig through the wreckage while the other heroes stood guard.
Six more ghouls arrived and resisted both Maedhros' and Torr's attempts to turn them. The fight became brutal with Ichi and Lowdog both falling. Kyron flew to help, but was little more than a living shield for Maedhros and Torr. Just as the heroes gained the upper hand, a group of nine manes arrived. The heroes quickly destroyed them, but not before Kryon lost his right leg from the knee down. The heroes were now badly battered, but before they could find the hand axe, tend the wounded, or even leave, ten more ghouls arrived!
Kyron used his bleeding leg to draw the undead off for a moment, in order to buy the rest of the party time to regain their feet. Maedhros first tended to the wounded then the half-elven cleric turned half of the ghouls. The heroes were forced to battle the rest. In the fight, Lowdog and Ichi were nearly killed and Squattingbeaver's armor rended, while Kyron was hacked down. Squattingbeaver collected his apprentice's lost leg and the party retreated.
Exhausted and near-death, the heroes flew out of the city and back to the plateau, Kyron borrowing a broom so he could collect Ahusaka, his young hippogriff. The heroes spent the night with only a minor incident of three shadows attacking, but the undead were very quickly destroyed.
