In the morning, the heroes (Ichi, Torr, Maedhros, Kyron with Dart, Idky, Lowdog, and Squattingbeaver) come up with a plan to assault the skyship over Chateauenfer. Flying up in groups of two, they'll use Saanau's fly spells before she leaves and the brooms' speed to quickly reach 6000' and the floating vessal. Squattingbeaver flies the first broom with Ichi on board and Kyron and Lowdog flying with. Idky flies the second broom with Maedhros and Torr flying with. Amazingly enough, Idky sets a course that completely bypasses the other, smaller balloons and scores the skyship on the first attempt.
At over 4000' the cloud of darkness is dispelled and the heroes rush up to see the underside of the ship. Within the nets, shadows swarm, eager for the heroes' life energy. Maedhros starts turning them in groups, while Torr fumbles with his holy symbol. 8-( As most of the undead leave a thin, humanoid vulture swoops down from the top of the ship...a vrock!
Kyron and Torr charge the creature, their fly spells giving them the ability to easily split off. Torr reaches the demon and in a single swing of his holy (ish) bastard sword, removes the creature's arm. Reeling from the pain, the demon plummets to the ground, impacting just as a second vrock arrives. Now joined by Lowdog, the three fighters make very quick work of this fiend, forcing it to teleport away rather than crash to the ground far below. Lowdog flies over to carry Squattingbeaver, who begins his dowsing spell to find the runestone. As the last of the shadows turn away, the heroes feel flushed with victory...!
Which, of course, is when the three beholderkin float over the side to join them. Each of the fighters moves to take a floating sphere with Maedhros going after the third. Kyron makes rather short work of his, but Torr and the half-elf both prove rather ineffective. Cue harpies... But luckily their song fails to ensnare any of the heroes, so the melee continues.
Squattingbeaver is getting close to the runestone's location when a gargoyle and then three harpies decide to ruin his plan. The heroes try to handle the monsters, but with Torr and Maedhros pinned down, there's only so much the others can do. The shaman locates the runestone and Lowdog drops him off on Ichi's flying broom, which is when more harpies and gargoyles arrive!
Just when things start to look bleak, a flying skiff arrives. In it are only two figures, a zombie controller and a woman with blonde hair, large naked breasts, a snake's lower body and six arms! The demoness says, "this is MY city now! I will not share it with Sidra! Prepare to die and for me to feast on your souls!"
Right about now is when Kyron knocks himself on the head and goes carreening to the ground. Maedhros breaks the young ranger's fall, but Kyron loses his enchanted hand axe. More beholders and gargoyles arrive to replace those that the heroes have slain. Squattingbeaver is nearly killed as well as knocked off the broom he was on -- only Ichi's quick reflexes saved the shaman.
Kyron starts to recover his wits and he joins Torr and Lowdog in slaughtering harpies. Meanwhile Maedhros' lighting bolt doesn't hurt the demoness but destroys her skiff, forcing her to teleport away as well. Most of the harpies and beholders are dead, but one manages to touch and charm Lowdog before being stunned. The creature begins to plummet and the Flan warrior dives to save it. Dart zips into finish the monster, but Lowdog hacks the pseudo dragon down.
Kyron saves his companion and Idky uses his broom to bring the ranger back up to the fight. By this point the battle is being waged at various elevations and several heroes have nearly plunged to their doom. The vrock and a couple of harpies were less fortunate...
Maedhros gets Squattingbeaver back on his feet and the shaman and Ichi remain on their broom, away from the combat. Torr moves to finish the last beholder and stuns himself, also plummeting toward the ground. As the paladin falls, the remaining three harpies try to make a meal of the hapless young man while Idky tries to break his fall.
Maedhros flies in to help the krolli, but the harpies drop the half-elf who also starts to fall. Lowdog goes into a dive and uses his body to cushion their impact with the ground. Meanwhile, after another harpy nails Idky, Kyron does the same dive-and-roll to save him. Talk about heroism!
Too bad the heroes are now on the ground, amid the city FULL of ghouls! Oh, yes and all the harpies who were hurt during the fight and forced to land...! The heroes take back to the air, while Lowdog draws his bow, gunning down the last of the shrieking bird-women. Badly wounded, the heroes get several hundred feet in the air and tend their wounds. Squattingbeaver uses medicine herbs while he, Maedhros, Idky, and a now-armorless Kyron, use nearly all of their healing spells.
The plan? Another assault on the skyship while the fly spells are still active. Current status:
Idky: 13 of 26 -- used CLW x3, 3gbs
Squattingbeaver: 8 of 16 -- used CLW x3, hunting paint (for the spook), and dowsing, 4 gbs
Ichi: 39 of 43 (mostly taken while trying to hold up and shield poor 'Beaver)

Maedhros: 11 of 35 -- used MM x3, FF, and LB, plus CLW x4, 3gbs
