The party wakes up Yule morning on Charn. After some debate, they come up with a plan: Squattingbeaver will dowse for fresh berries and a "safe" campsite. To do this, he'll ride on one of the magical brooms with Kyron flying it with Ahusaka and Saanau for accompaniment AFTER WHICH Saanau will fly one broom with Ichi and Lowdog the other in order to get back to Black Robe and the gate to Oerth. Given that the party needs goodberries and both Ichi and Lowdog were crippled by gunfire, it's a good plan which they pull off...mostly...
Yule evening, while Maedhros and Idky were on watch, the rest of the party slept in the cave the Flan shaman found. Unfortunately, neither the half elf nor the krolli spied the charging band of six ghouls. The undead savagely attacked the sleeping heroes and took out Squattingbeaver immediately. Maedhros and Idky each attempted to turn, but both failed, as did Torr once he got to his feet. Only Torr had a chance to draw his weapons, falling back on his ranger skills and using both his defending hand axe and hammer of thunderbolts. Torr tried to draw his sword to help Kyron, but was stunned and then dropped while Maedhros was paralyzed. With Ahusaka's help, Kyron took out two ghouls, but without his armor, was quickly failing. Maedhros got back on his feet and unleashed a volley of magic missiles, but was hacked open for his troubles. Kyron assumed gaseous form to buy some time and managed in the end to BARELY finish off the undead, who charged him one at a time. Using the last of his herbs, Kyron saved the party and cure lighted Squattingbeaver and Maedhros, who healed the others.
The heroes were worried and so had all the non-fighters go to sleep with Torr and Kyron on watch. In the morning, on the first day of 617, while the fighters slept the priests spy a group of humans approaching. The humans are refugees, but when the new-comers see the party they stop, huddle, and being to undress. Once naked, the six people grow fur and transform into jackalweres...! So, Maedhros unleashes a lightning bolt and cinders four of them. The other two run... Later, Ichi and Lowdog return with Saanau, completely healed of their crippling wounds!
On the 2nd, during the pre-dawn hours while Ichi and Torr are on watch, another group of eight ghouls charge the heroes, but this time the fighters hold the line. Two ghouls break through to attack Lowdog and Kyron, while the paladin and monk slowly whittle down the undead in the cave mouth. Dart holds one off while the two shaman use missiles and Maedhros magic missiles to destroy it. Lowdog takes out the other. In the end, all the undead are destroyed and yet Ahusaka and Squattingbeaver collapse... The two surviving jackalweres flee when spotted...
In the morning, the heroes move to the top of the mesa where they fought the demon days earlier. The 3rd and 4th pass without incident and so on the party is back to full strength on the morning of 617/1/5 and ready to tackle the skyship over Chateauenfer...
