As DM, I thought ambushing the entrance into the Temple of Elemental Evil was actually brilliant! Close second was Andorallan's orcish "ring catch"

The new heros were down in a lot of ways (not a balanced party) but really worked together well, from ambushing Lareth at the ToE, to succeeding in spite of the Cuthbertians, to the VoS, etc, etc.
