The heroes (Ichi, Torr, Maedhros, Kyron with Dart and Ahusaka, Idky, Saanau, Lowdog, Squattingbeaver, and Marius) discussed their situation briefly and decided that it would be best to bail off the train. Maedhros passes out his remaining cure light wounds and Torr lays hands on Idky, allowing the krolli to fly. Kyron and Dart climb onto Ahusaka, Squattingbeaver and Ichi take the magic broom, Hexen, Marius and Lowdog take the magic broom, Vedma, Saanau uses her winged sandals, Vedma, Idky flies under his own power, and Maedhros casts fly on Torr, who carries him. Most of the group takes off at a good clip, although Torr and Marius (with their passengers Maedhros and Lowdog) can't keep up and fall behind. A cluster of ghouls and shadows gather beneath the heroes running to keep up.
The heroes fly for over a minute before they spot the vrock. The demon orients on the party and Saanau lets loose a wizard's wrath which parts around the creature. The vrock then swoops down at the lead group, striking at Kyron and trying to knock him off his hippogriff. Amazingly, the neophyte shaman manages to hang out and the group keeps flying, the demon now headed for the second group. Saanau flies after the demon, unleashing a second, equally ineffective, wizard's wrath.
By this point, Maedhros had managed to turn all the shadows and a couple of the ghouls gave up the chase. The vrock tried to attack the group physically, but Torr's paladin aura hedged the creature out. Saanau unleashed a Melf's acid arrow which scored on the monster, but instead of attacking the elf, it used its power of telekinesis to yank Marius off the broom. Lowdog has no time to react and crashes on Vedma. With two party members down, Torr has no choice but to land...
Saanau unleashes a forked lightning bolt into the incoming ghouls, vaporizing eight of ten. Maedhros tends to the wounded while Saanau moves to engage the last ghoul. The demon, meanwhile tries to goad the paladin into attacking it physically (and thereby violating the hedge his aura offers).
Looking back, Squattingbeaver sees what's happened and brings his broom around. Idky and Kyron likewise make wide turns back. But the other group is nearly a minute away...!
More ghouls lumber out of the gloom, more than replacing those Torr has managed to hack down. Lowdog tries to fight the undead off, but with his wounded hip and face-plant from the broom, the Flan warrior is quickly overwhelmed. A ghoul also attacks Maedhros, dropping the half-elf. The demon gloats and uses his telekinesis to nab the helpless cleric / mage.
Squattingbeaver and Ichi arrive, the monk attacking the demon. Unfortunately, the vrock merely turns and drops the monk without difficulty. Things look bleak with only Saanau and Torr against the four remaining ghouls and Squattingbeaver to face the demon...
Kyron arrives on Ahusaka, goading the hippogriff to take one of Saanau's foes. Meanwhile, Dart zips in and stings the demon, squirting a dose of venom into it. Squattingbeaver tosses his spear, but misses the vrock. More ghouls begin to charge out of the darkness...
The demon savages little Dart, then falls to the pseudo dragon's venom. Squattingbeaver takes his spear and sinks it into the demon's head. Torr clears himself and Kyron with Ahusaka clear Saanau, who uses her spells on the lead ghoul. Idky swoops down and finishes it off. The krolli then moves to aid Ahusaka, while Torr jumps on the other ghoul. Squattingbeaver tends the wounded.
As another group of ghouls charge, the Flan shaman with Saanau's help, load Marius onto one of the brooms and fly off. Torr finishes off the two ghouls directly menacing the party and Kyron flies at the incoming, getting them to chase him. Idky casts an aid on Maedhros, reviving the cleric. Working together, the heroes restore the other party members to consciousness, hop on the other broom, and fly!
Just outside the cloud of darkness, the heroes regroup. They stabilize Marius' condition and using Torr's falcon cloak to turn Ichi into a bird, manage to fall back to a scrubby spot a mile or so from the city. There the party rests and spends the night, tending to the wounded. With dawn, the heroes seek out a new spot to rest and recover, choosing a very visible but inaccessible mesa.
The heroes pass all of the 27th without incident. They heal and tend to their wounds, Maedhros discovering that outside the clouds of darkness, he can contact the spirit of the living world to heal himself.
Most of the last day of 616 also passes without incident, until near sunset a vrock flies in to investigate the party. Lowdog shoots an arrow, but the misses. Suddenly, the demon appears behind Maedhros, teleporting to the attack. The heroes strike at it, wounding the monster. It responds by casually using its telekinesis to hurl Squattingbeaver off the mesa. Saanau flies after him, using a feather fall to slow his descent until Kyron can catch him on Ahusaka. Meanwhile, the party smashes the demon several more times, forcing it to teleport to safety...
The heroes use the last of their spells to heal that evening and in the morning the party's status is:
Maedhros: full (35)
Saanau: 35 of 53 -- BUT returning to school -er- Oerth that morning; she'll pass out fly spells to three people before she leaves
Squattingbeaver: full (13?)
Ichi: 39 of 42, still 1/2 dex and move due to bad left hip
