A new party of heroes entered the gate at Tovag Baragu to Charn. The group consists of:
Torr Redlocke -- 6th lvl paladin of Bahamut, quested by Black Robe to end the threat to the nearby Flan villages
Zatoi Ichi -- 6th lvl blind monk and Torr's party member
Kyron Drake -- 6th lvl ranger, Prince of Angel's Rock, Torr's cousin, old friend of Black Robe and all Flan peoples, accompanied by his pseudo-dragon buddy, Dart
Maedhros -- 4th/4th half-elven mage / cleric of Corellon, joined the group recently as a favor to his high-priest Ael'Mara, to watch the former party member, Prince Garlok Drake
Wooden Thighs -- 9th lvl Flan puma-werelord, Black Eagle's brother and therefore Black Robe's brother-in-law, stoic, angry, generally mistrusted by everyone due to his culture or class
Idky -- 4th lvl cleric of Fharlaghn, received a dream from his god to help out
In the morning of the 18th, the group returned to Pommeville on the world of Charn. Together they hiked down from Deer Leap Hill (site of the gate) to the nearby river, intending to ford it. Before the group arrived, they had a serious problem when Wooden Thighs assumed his beast-form. Torr was ready to hack the Flan warrior down (for his own good, "so we can cure you") while both clerics were likewise prepared to turn on their nascent ally. Despite Woody's protects and Black Robe's previous assurances (which were only good enough for Kyron), Maedhros used know alignment to verify that the serious Flan fighter was not evil. After this little drama, the heroes skirted around the old horse corral and headed for the cabinet-maker's house.
The party had a brief tussle with five shadows in a small copse of trees, but dealt with the undead easily enough. They searched the house for 20 minutes, but found nothing. The group then decided to search the local church, avoiding a wandering group of ghouls and dispatch a half-dozen massive maggots.
At the church, the party made short work of three more shadows, eight skeletons, and seven zombies. The heroes then found a secret staircase heading into the basement of the temple, the stairs packed with (and therefore guarded by) simple zombies and skeletons. Maedhros and Idky tried turning, but it became apparent that one of the skeletons was really a bone golem! Meanwhile, shadows began spilling out into the room a handful at a time until nearly two dozen were present.
The bone golem let out a shriek which dropped Wooden Thighs into a fit of trembling. Torr, Kyron, and Ichi tried to hold the bone golem at bay, ignoring the shadows at first. Unfortunately the incorporeal undead began to take their toll, dropping both clerics and massing around the remaining heroes. Torr attempted to turn, getting rid of the last of the corporeal undead, unfortunately all but three shadows remained...
Woody rejoined the fight, the only one really able to handle the shadows. Slowly Kyron's strength began to wick away, so much so that he drank his potion of super-heroism and had Dart flit about in combat as a distraction. Ichi used his staff to good effect, smiting shadows.
The bone golem was having a hard time hitting Torr and the paladin's aura helped protect his allies as well. Wooden Thighs continued to destroy shadows with Ichi taking out a couple as well. That's when Torr was struck twice in a row by the golem and taken out. Kyron stepped up and focused on the shadows while Woody rotated to keep the golem contained. Ultimately, the number of shadows worked against the undead since they prevented the bone golem from attacking.
Kyron was finally so badly wounded that Ichi took his last foe, allowing the ranger to grab Torr's undead repellent. Under the cover of this magic, the young prince tended to the wounded and even got Dart to sprinkle some dust of Ichi as well! He then unleashed a fox arrow to keep the golem busy for a while. Unfortunately, Woody was failing fast and the monk wasn't too much better.
With the other party members dragged to safety, Wooden Thighs grabbed Ichi and shadow jacked him out of combat. Kyron shot his phoenix arrow down the hall, behind the undead, the resulting fireball nearly collapsing the stonework and seriously damaging the remaining shadows. But, the incorporeal undead kept coming, while the skeletons, zombies, golem, and (now) ghouls, stayed behind the slight rubble blockage.
The heroes managed to finish off the last of the shadows and then retreated to a nearby build to lick their wounds and heal...
