PART 1
Freya gathered together the Shadow Knights Domar, Cassandra, Livak, Tandris, and Inar. Their mission: to journey to the lands of Maztica where they were to punish the worshipers of the Elder Elemental God. The primary goal is to kill every single priest of Ghaunadaur within the great pyramid. The secondary goal is to destroy the holy altar of the EEG. The two Tertiary goals are to kill ever single worshipper in the temple and nearby village AND to destroy the entire temple complex.
The heroes appeared on a path in the tropical jungle where then met up with Anya, a cleric of Freya. The group quickly headed to the pyramid, meeting up with Catzotl en route. The Maztican woman spoke a little Common and explained her friends and family were within the temple, to be sacrificed. She had used magic to appear as a "temple zombie" and could sneak in with the group, but had to leave her jaguar friend, Tikal, behind.
The group penetrated the four levels of the stepped pyramid and entered the inner building within. They quickly dispatched three were-jaguars and avoided numerous patrols of zombies. The heroes then wiped out a group of eagle warriors and their men. Domar managed to pummel one warrior unconscious and Inar healed another. Tandris used her mind reading powers along with Catzotl's limited questioning to locate where the prisoners were being held. En route to the lower levels, however, the group ran afoul of a pair of shadows.
At first all seemed well, but only Domar and Cassandra were able to really hurt the undead. And soon, the group was stormed by a shadow demon leading two more shadows and four zombies. Luckily, the juju zombies were confused and did not join the melee at first. Cassandra and Domar proved to be the only warriors able to handle the creatures, but the group was forced to run, leaving Livak to be dropped by the monsters. Under cloak of invisibility to undead, Anya stayed behind and tended the beastmaster.
The heroes were separated for a time, but managed to get back together and regroup. They then had Catzotl drink of potion of undead control they found. Using the magic of the potion, Catzotl had the juju zombies first slaughter an ochre jelly, then each other.
Finally, beaten and battered, the group reached the second level where the captives were held. There, the Shadow Knights freed eight warriors, a princess, a merchant, two wemics, Catzotl's young brother, Miccah, and her friend, Hutizol, as well as a couatl. The feathered serpent was drugged, but Huitzol dealt with that. Meanwhile, the heroes found themselves again in combat, battling first a juju zombie and two were-jaguars, then seven more!
Victorious but in no shape for another battle, the couatl, Avarnis dimension folded the refugees to safety while the heroes used their undead nature (or disguises) to walk out. Avarnis then rendez-voused with them and set about tending to their wounds. In order to get supplies, the couatl agreed to dimension fold them to Greyhawk, where they bought scrolls and potions. He also cast nap on both Anya and a cleric of Odin, allowing the clerics to heal the other Shadow Knights.
