Howdy folks,
There are six PC races which have remained on the nebulous border of playability for some time. All are interesting, but truely at the fringe of a fantasy universe. Ironically, none of these races are actually new to my world -- we've had tieflings since '89 and I experimented with them and genasai since '79 (under other names, of course). In fact, I'm writing these races up now because I'm so frustrated with the great-idea-turned-miserable-implementation these six races have received in Planescape, the Plane Walker's Handbook, and in 3rd Edition -- aasimar, genasai, and tieflings need some straightening out!
Examples, you ask? Well, why should an aasimar be resistant to fire, when most devas are not? Why should a tiefling only get a +2 vs fire, when most infernal creatures (demons, devils, etc) take 1/2 damage if they're not just plain immune? And shouldn't an earth genasai be just as able to survive in the plane of Earth as a fire genasai can handle the Fire plane? Hello?!? Don't start me about having powers that the planar-parent lacks in the first place...! Logic, please!
I'm going to do each of the races in its own thread, so that we don't get issues with one muddled with the others. Please take a look and tell me what you think; as always, your feedback is valuable and taken seriously.
Thanks, David
