The heroes returned the Destiny where they questioned Rasmussen, the man they'd rescued from the gnolls. Su's mind reading proved quite valuable; Rasmussen was a member of the Cult of Thanatos. After learning quite a bit about the followers of the God of Death, the group elected to execute him. Su took him back to the island under the guise of learning more about "his story" and finished him.
Orn then used his power of object reading to learn more about the mace, eye-balls, cutlass, and shield the group had found. His visions on the later were limited, but the mace had a rich and deep history, beyond anything the priest had EVER encountered and with implications of pre-historic signifcance.
In the morning, the heroes (Arthur, Su, Jamal, Asha, Py!ota, and William) returned to the dungeon. Instead of tackling the gnolls head-on, they went for where Py!ota and Asha had met the strange troll.
The group dealt with five giant bats, then found another shrine to Thanatos had been restocked with undead, but made quick work of the skeletons, zombies, and shadows. The group then descended the (no longer) trapped staircase and encountered the troll. Its color spray nearly took out the whole party...!
Once Arthur webbed the creature, Su learned that the shrunken troll was actually really a gnome struggling under a curse. He had been trapped in these dungeons for 32 years and his sanity had left some time earlier. The heroes learned much from the former illusionist, including that he was the sole survivor of an ill-fated previous expedition to find the missing Amazon colonies, that a large colony of lizard men were very closeby, and that a powerful sphinx dwells in the other direction, guarding some treasure.
The next move? Good question!

Well, do we press on with reduced spells against a horde of creatures (that fight in land, & water). Do we send in a scout (invisibly cloaked) to gather information. Do we wait the 5 minutes it takes the lizard men to "hear" we had a battle only 2 stone throws away and to charge us... Retreat to the light? Check out the Sphinx in the hope that the lizard men will "avoid" her region. I'm big on information. I feel we should scout ahead and find out what the lizard men are doing. The Sphinx (while the most interesting) will wait and is not a threat in our backs. We need info on the Lizard men and to kill them off. Arthur Who really likes the idea of talking to a Sphinx...

I say we retreat with the troll to the room above. Stone shape the latch closed and wait for dark. Then we can take the troll back to the ship and get him healed.
This A) prevents us from going into a big battle with reduced spells and the like. B) allows us to 'save' the troll C)gives us a chance to see if we want to try and talk to the lizard men. And figure out how to do so safely.
My concerns are based on the number of lizard men with spell based back up. I don't think the low level party could take the large numbers of lizards especially if they have range weapons. Does Arthur some kind of spell (shield?) that would help to keep the arrows/slings off?

The best spell for Arthur to stop a crowd of archers is "web"
Now I look at this as an opportunity.
We have a "weakened foe" in the Gnolls - we have an unknown foe in the lizard men.
We need to get them fighting each other!
If we enter a dungeon fight 1 or 2 battles and then retreat for a day each time we won't get anywhere fast.
However, we can't keep fighting 24/7 with limited spells.
We NEED to find a tunnel link between the Lizard men and the Gnolls - send in Su as a "wounded" agent - and report that the "Gnolls have started a war!" And have the lizards go after the gnolls and have them kill each other off - and we get to pick up the pieces and profits! When we attack the "victor".
We need information and that means stealth and subterfuge. We need to map this underground better and then get the two of them killing each other.
