The heroes escaped the catacombs and discussed their next move. Arthur, William, Taephyr, and Asha went to the Mosque of a Thousand Fountains to speak with Haroushan, let him know what they found, and get healed. There was some discussion of the mummified hand the group found, which Haroushan identified as a hand of glory. He asked for the object for study, but William kept it, after a slight verbal tussle with Arthur.
In the morning, the heroes (Arthur, Taephyr, Asha, William, and Black Jack) were getting ready when they heard a knock on the door of the inn. In strode a tall, blonde amazon named Alexa. After hitting on William, she announced she had been sent by Haroushan to protect the party. She was soon joined by Abdul.
The group returned to the entrance to the catacombs, where Omar was waiting for them. Alexa insisted on taking the point to protect the "little men". In the first room, the heroes spied five ghouls. In a moment, Alexa's abdommen was ripped to tatters and gallons of blood and bodily fluids poured out. So much for their amazon guardian! Jack stepped up and began to whittle away at the ghouls, but was paralyzed. Next Abdul stepped in to hold the line, while Arthur and Asha let loose volleys of magic missiles. With a bit of work, the heroes were victorious and took teh heads of the five ghouls back to Haroushan for the proof he needed.
The cleric of Zann again healed the heroes and they returned to the catacombs, this time with one of Haroushan's lesser acolytes to turn the undead. The heroes had a pretty easy time at first and explored a good chunk of the tunnels before encountering a LARGE party of ghouls and ghasts. Black Jack and Abdul squared off to trap them, but Jack was paralysed. Things began to look bad. That's when Asha let loose a lightning bolt that vaporized the ghouls and destroyed the ghasts. The heroes continued...
Soon, they came to a large burial vault, already stripped of valuables. Inside, however, were six more ghouls (and thanks to Arthur's robe!) three shadows. The cleric turned the ghouls, but the shadows quickly moved among the heroes, ignoring their ranks. Taephyr tried to use a spiritual hammer but sucked. Asha and Arthur, however, used their magic missiles to deal with most of the shadows. Unfortunately, something strange happened...the ghouls unturned!
Jack was paralyzed again while the party fought ghouls to the front and a shadow to the rear. Exhausting the last of their spells, the mages took out the rear shadow, but in the meanwhile, all the fighters as well as William had been taken out by the ghoul's touch. Taephyr was trying to hold the passage, trusting to his protective aura. Arthur began to toss daggers over the lammasu's head, but things began to look bleak. Which was about when Jack stood up, slaughtered a ghoul and turned the tide.
Victorious, the heroes found a few items still in the niches -- a medallion against the evil eye (non-Egyptian Wadjet), a holy symbol in the shape of a seven gateways, and a living black rose...
