The heroes return victorious to the palace, where they enjoyed a small banquet along with the Caliph, her daughters, and many of the generals from the battle. About the time the heroes had settled into their beds, a powerful earthquake shook the city to its foundations. The heroes then helped keep the peace until the wee hours of the morning.
Right about midnight, Flint, Isaac, and Sabuto heard a strange noise, like a bell breaking as it rang. Most fo the other townsfolk, however, heard nothing.
In the morning, the heroes enjoyed a wonderful breakfast in the garden. During a brief walk through the grounds, Herrod managed to befriend (adopt!) a juvinile winged snake. Later, the heroes bought various goods and supplies in the marketplace
In the afternoon, the Caliph met with the heroes and aksed them if they would be willing to go on either of two missions for her. There were reports of forces from Umara massing on the border and the Caliph needed someone to infiltrate the enemy forces and gather intelligence. Meanwhile, Haroushan of the Mosque of a Thousand Fountains believed the secrets to the immiment Apocalypse would be revealed if the heroes could journey to the ancient ruins of al-Anwahr and recover the Tome, the Eleven Baneful Gates.
