(after a bit of administrative wrangling over the direction of the game and how the ship was going to be handled)
On Midsummer's Eve, the people of Muluk gathered for a great celebration in the Plaza of the Ancients -- the Founders Festival. This feast was held in honor of Amakim Ibn Issad, the man who founded Inn'ash, the city now known as Muluk. The reverly carried on well past sunset, only to be violently marred! Ghouls and other undead swarmed through the crowd, slaughtering the townsfolk. The priests of the various temples dealt with most, but many died that night.
The Caliph called forward all the heroes available to follow the trail of the undead, a trail which lead out of the city with clues that Qadib was involved...
Luckily, a forward-thinking priest of Zann, Haroushan, also called for heroes. Although the mighty and experienced answered the Caliph's summons, a few salty sailors responded to Haroushan's. The priest, unlike most of the clerics and nobles of Muluk, was convinced that these undead arose from the Mount of Forgiveness, the cemetery for the honored dead of Muluk. As a result, he asked the heroes to enter the catacombs and search for evidence of the monsters within...
Answering the call were Jamal and Asha, Arthur, Py!ota Benga, William, Butch, and Taephyr. Keeping his promise, the youth, Omar, also arrived to help. Omar lead the heroes to a secret entrance to the Mount. Very quickly descending a rough tunnel, the group encountered zombies. They made quick work of the undead, only to meet more skeletons and zombies. The heroes did quite well and began following a trail of blood.
Soon the heroes found themselves battling ghouls and ghasts, the same kinds of undead that had been the main threat at the feast. Moreover these creatures were clearly the remains of Muluk's nobles and other well-buried citizens...
The heroes travel quite a distance into the warrens, following the blood trail nearly to its source. There, the heroes were suddenly overwhelmed by ghouls, ghasts, and zombies. The fighters managed to hold the front line quite well and Asha whittled the undead with a lighting bolt but ultimately, Jamal, Butch, Py!ota, and William were all paralyzed by the ghouls' touches. Things looked bleak, but Arthur and Asha managed to rain down enough spells to take out one set of undead, while Taephyr held the other passage long enough for Butch to shake off the paralysis. Unfortunately, when he did, he transformed into a wereshark. He slaughtered several zombies before one ripped off his front fin. Jamal finised the last zombie and the party tended their wounded, leaving Butch to bleed out.
