Sneaking back to the Mount of Forgiveness early in the morning, Taephyr, Jamal, Asha, Arthur, Py!ota, William, Abdul, and Omar began a third search of the catacombs. Haroushan's priests' disrupt unlife clearly had some effect; the heroes encountered no skeletons or zombies in their search and very quickly found a major room containing ghouls, shadows, and a ghul.
The heroes engaged the monsters in battle and with the works of Asha and Flint's spells, slaughtered the ghul almost immediately. During the battle, Jamal discovered the magic of the alabaster spheres the heroes had found -- the abated the paralytic touch of ghouls and freezing touch of shadows. The heroes finished off the undead, searched the area and continued on, catching up with Black Jack. They met relatively little resistance, and explored a wide swath of the upper tunnels. Then, however, then encountered a second ghul, this one with ghouls, ghasts, and ju ju zombie retainers.
Battle was joined, with Py!ota's PERFECT shot bouncing harmlessly off the ghul! No one realized ghul were immune to mundane weapons! Meanwhile, the warriors formed a fighting line. Omar dropped almost immediately. William soon joined him. The front line collapsed. Arthur and Asha used all their remaining spells, but the undead kept coming. Things began to look bleak. Jamal was paralysed and only Taephyr's ability to dimension door managed to save him. An amazingly lucky lightning bolt from Asha, powered by Arthur's bronze star, managed to drive off the ghul and the heroes, with MUCH luck slowly whittled down the remaining zombies and survived. Unfortunately, in the process, Py!ota's leg was seriously hurt and although William was saved, his leg was also somewhat mangled.
