After effectively scuttling both sohars, the heroes made haste to return to the Destiny in case the followers of Thanatos had similar plans for their own ship. Because Flint was still under his fly spell, he and Asha were able to shoot back to the ship and get it under sail while the rest of the group were still making their way to the skiff.
Partway back to the skiff, the heroes noticed shapes pursuing them. A quick turn from Cloe, however, sent the three skotos fleeing. At that point, William swam ahead of get the skiff ready. When he arrived, he and Djack set about rowing toward the group to speed their return to the Destiny. Meanwhile, Cloe, using her seven league boots, hurried back to the ship, lest it be taken by undead.
Unfortunately, before Isaac, Su, Sabuto, and Orn could make it back, several waves of lacedons caught up with them. Able to swim quite a bit faster than the humans (despite their pass without wake spells), the sea-ghouls sped at the fleeing humans and attacked. Orn managed to turn many of the undead with Sabuto slaying most who got past. Su helped take out a couple, but poor Isaac was quickly paralyzed. Ultimately, however, the heroes triumphed after the last wave of lacedons was defeated. Boarding the skiff, the group headed back to the ship, William using an inkjet to cover their retreat.
For her part, Cloe drank a potion of polymorph and swam back to the skiff, but arrived too late for the combat. The crew reunited aboard the Destiny and sailed to the site of the previous battle. There, one sohar was already underwater and the second was sinking quickly. Three skiffs were at the sinking wreckage, picking up survivors. Cloe used this opportunity for another call lightning targetting the undead in the waters. One skiff abandoned the sailors, heading immediately back to shore as the Destiny approached.
Unknown to the crew of the Destiny several waves of lacedons, shadows, and a skoto had been commanded to secretly attack the ship as it approached. After the first bolt of lightning struck, the shadows and skotos slide out of the water and attacked. Unfortunately for the undead, they were no match for Orn and Cloe, who turned them. Sabuto used his kiai powers to do a distance death at the skotos, unturning the lot, but a magic missile from Flint destroyed the Medegian wraith while Cloe re-turned the shadows. It was at that point that two bands of lacedons boarded the fore and aft of the ship, but were soundly defeated, with most being destroyed.
Satisfied that the followers of Thanatos were marooned on the island, the Destiny set sail for the next island in the chain to rest and prepare for their next move.
On the morning of the 12th, the party sailed back to the island of Rumelia. The more powerful group kept watch over the ship, while the more novice group, aided by William's pass without wakes and waterbreathing spells picked through the ship wrecks for treasure.
The salvage group managed to complete their search of one sohar, encountering nothing more threatening than a handful of skeletons. Jamaal, however, spied a figure on the beach; a fair-haired woman with a polar bear escort. The figure waved to the Destiny. Curious, Cloe and Sabuto took out a skiff to investigate...
The woman hailed the group in the Common Tongue of the Flanese. She asked about the group's relgion, mission, and patron deities. When communication became difficult, she cast a spell, allowing her to speak freely with Sabuto. The woman introduced herself as Amaryllis, a white witch of Aphrodite. Her bear was Fuzzy. Cloe questioned her about her faith (a witch of Aphrodite?) but Amaryllis merely pointed out that Cloe (a mystic of Healing?) was in no place to be judging. After several tense moments, Sabuto confessed one of the heroes objectives, at which point Amaryllis relaxed and explained, "I've been sent by the Olympians to help you. Our mission is to reclaim the gate from all pretend-Medegian gods (Thanatos) as well as any non-Greeks who might claim it."
With that, Cloe, who had used a spell to determine that Amaryllis is chaotic good with chaotic neutral tendancies, suggested the group continue their discussion back aboard the Destiny. Once Sabuto agreed to protect Amaryllis, the white witch relaxed, dismissed Fuzzy with a wave of her arm, and hopped aboard the skiff...
