The gaming session was mostly to nail down the particulars of the campaign -- which ocean the players wanted to explore (the Great Sea/Northern), which PCs would be on the higher and lower level rosters (see below), who the officers were to be (TBD), what kind of ship to use (cog), how to procure it (sell some magic items and earn some treasure), assemble the cool lego miniature ship (done!), etc
The party now includes (ordered by party-seniority and player):
Flint -- half-elven fighter / mage
Cloe -- mystic of Healing
Asha -- weird monkey formerly know as OohOoh
Isaac -- half-orc archer
Jamal -- desert warrior with high station
Sabuto -- kensai / martial artist
William -- sea-druid of Mannanon Mac Lir
Orn -- cleric of Kor
Py!ota Benga -- odd dark pygmy mariner
Black Jack -- western sailor
Su -- but firm ally of Cloe, Herrod, and Flint (in order)
Butch -- Bluto-like Welsh sailor
The heroes went into Muluk's markets one day and came across a youth being badly beaten. Black Jack and Jamal stepped in -- Black Jack nearly decking one of the three thugs with a single hit. Orn called to the thugs to stop and explain themselves. They claimed to be serving their master, Hasan, by teaching the boy his proper social place; the boy (Omar) had aspirations of marrying Hasan's sister, Fatima.
Orn, as a local, felt this situation was reasonable, and got ready to leave. Black Jack, Butch, and William, not versed in the culture, were ready to pay back the thugs. One thug bolted before anything more could happen. Orn tripped him and Butch proceeded to smash his face; were it not for Orn's ministrations, the man would have died. This lead to some further party conflict, which APPEARED to have been settled. Orn then took the boy aside and tried to talk him out of his ardour...
The next day in the market, the group encountered five men -- one they recognized, one they later learned to be Hasan, and three more thugs. Asha avoided a conflict, however, with a stinking cloud.
Back on ship, Butch and Asha got into a bit of a tussle, but Asha scared the bully and then Py!ota and Cloe took charge of the situation and but the sailor in his place.
DM's note -- the group still needs to work out: ships's officers, ship's crew (NPCs), ship's treasure divisions, provisioning, actually getting the money to buy the cog, and ship's rules.
