A group of less seasoned heroes (Taephyr, Jamal, Asha, William, Py!ota Benga, and Abdul) were tasked with holding the more powerful party's wins in the lower catacombs. To aid them, the Panthiad priest, Darouk, joined the heroes. The goal was to hold the region for eight hours, until relief could come.
Within 40 minutes, Jamal spied nearly a dozen ghouls. He whipped out his bow and shot, missing the lead undead. The ghouls then spilled into the room, forcing nearly everyone into melee combat. In seconds, two of the fighters were paralyzed while everyone was suffering multiple wounds. Darouk turned a large group, buying the party some breathing room. Asha discharged a lightning bolt which killed many, but reversed the turn. A second turn drove more away and badly wounded the heroes were victorious.
About 40 minutes later, skeletons arrived, but this time Py!ota contained them in the hallway. The heroes made short work of these undead. When dozens of zombies arrived, the group made good use of the flammable liquid, combining turns and molotov cocktails to slaughter these undead too. Things were looking up, but just as the heroes finished them off, the ghouls returned. The heroes slaughtered most and turned the remaining four. At the four hour mark, a huge host of shadows arrived. The heroes only managed to destroy one, but turned the rest. Then, after about five and a half hours, the wounded-and-turned ghouls returned, this time invisible. Abdul was on watch and spotted their prints in the flour, but still fell. Quickly joining him were Taephyr and Jamal, and later Py!ota. Aiding the ghouls was a ghûl and it was he would dropped Abdul. Luckily, but this point Asha and Darouk's spells had finished off the ghouls and Abdul was regaining his feet. The ghûl finally fell not to Darouk's maces but Asha's magic missiles. With the very last of his spells, Darouk restored everyone to consciousness and the heroes fled to the surface...
...what a nice DM -- the shadows didn't bother them...
