With dawn the heroes found themselves rather beaten up. Harbinder set about psionically healing the party, but reached her limit quite quickly with Isaac and Flint. After a pause so she could meditate, the group set out to take out the ogre encampment/guardpost. Unfortunately, Inar and Zhiir misjudged the distance and after a short walk the group camp within sight of the hill-fort. There, clearly visible, were several ogres. After a painful argument, Flint and Isaac quaffed two hits of the invisibility potion and maneuvered around the rest of the party toward the steep trail toward the fort. Meanwhile, Harbinder and Sabuto were mock-tied by Inar and Zhiir, with Inar calling out to the fort that he had prisoners for the sha'ir.
Unfortunately, the human leader of the fort didn't like the idea and further wasn't sure what to do, so he hesitated. Meanwhile, nearly a dozen ogres and a hill giant joined him. The giant, in fact, tossed a boulder in the party's path, bringing them to a halt. Meanwhile, five ogres left the heights to personally "inspect" the prisoners.
When the ogres arrived, they began to focus on the women, Zhiir and Harbinder, and lacking strong leadership, went a bit far. Zhiir tried to unload her crossbow into one of the ogres, but nearly shot herself instead. In the confusion, Harbinder shredded her bonds and decked one ogre while Inar wounded a second. For their parts, Issac and Flint dashed up the path to attack the hill giant and ogres there.
A stray boulder from the giant hit Zhiir, but only seriously wounded her (rather than killing her outright). Sabuto and Harbinder managed to make fairly short-work of the other ogres below, but Harbinder and Inar were both seriously wounded in the process. Meanwhile, Issac and Flint let six more ogres pass -- leaving only two ogres, the hill giant, and the human leader above.
Harbinder bought the party several seconds, psionically flooring four ogres with a mental blast. Meanwhile, Sabuto quaffed his potion of speed, becoming a blinding fury of ogre-slaying action. Three ogres dropped in a single round. Inar moved in to help, finishing one ogre. Using their time, Harbinder and Zhiir moved toward the fort, hoping to help Flint and Isaac.
At the top of the fort, Flint turned visible, blasting the hill giant with magic missiles. Strangely, the giant did not react. Then, Isaac turned visible and hacked the giant, but didn't manage to stun it. The stupid ogres and hill giants, however, were surprised and Isaac survived a while longer. Meanwhile, Flint had positioned himself near the edge of the cliff, so only the human leader could fight him.
Isaac dodge the giant's attack, but got caught by the ogre. He struck back, opening up the giant's torso. Undaunted, the foes pressed their attack. Isaac swung again, cutting clean through his ogres torso and sending a shower of blood and gore in all directions. Unfortunately, the ogre and human's morale didn't waver, bolstered in part now that Flint lay on the ground bleeding. Isaac swung to finish the last ogre...and missed. The monster didn't, striking the half-orc archer through the heart and killing him instantly.
Harbinder and Zhiir below, not knowing Isaac's fate, moved to support him. Harbinder got a spear in her leg for her troubles. Zhiir tried a sling bullet, but couldn't manage to hit the ogre 80' above. Suddenly, however, the monster whimpered and cowered, succumbing to Harbinder's ego whip. Still speeded, Sabuto scooped up Inar and dashed up the trail. At the top, he quickly overwhelmed the human and he and Inar killed the last ogre. But the damage was done. Isaac is dead.
Inar managed to restore Flint to consciousness and Harbinder healed most of the others. While searching the fort, the heroes found a storage room accessible only via a ladder. Inside was a captive cleric of Kor -- Orn. Orn healed Flint and Harbinder and the group settled in to rest and bury Isaac in a cairn.
Clearly too wounded and depleted to continue, the group spent all of the 22nd healing and resting in the fort. As dawn met them on the 23rd, the prepared to continue on to the Genie's Garden.
