The heroes (Cloe, Arthur, Orn, Abdul, Amaryllis, Ariadne, and Epicasta) were in a tight spot. After an exhausting battle against five demons, suddenly three vampires were materializing in the shrine. But, just as the undead were arrising from the great bronze urns of black-fire, Jamal too showed up. He immediately attacked the nearest vampire, not even sure what kind of monster he was fighting. Meanwhile, Abdul got to his feet, Amaryllis resumed her human shape, Ariadne aided her nightmare, Orn attempted to turn the vampires, and Arthur and Cloe healed Epicasta.
Abdul joined Jamal in melee. Arthur trapped a second vampire behind a web, giving Orn a chance to cast prayer. Amaryllis made a strange comment about Orn in Ancient Medegian and Epicasta got to her feet. Meanwhile, Ariadne cast a sort of faerie fire on two vampires and Cloe attempted to turn them. The vampires laughed off the mystic's attempt and the disengaged one attacker her for her troubles. The one already in combat with Jamal and Abdul attempted to slaughter the mamluk, but missed miserably (and amazingly!). Meanwhile, the final vampire turned gaseous.
Epicasta disengaged Cloe. Arthur used his medallion to unleash a volley of prayer-enhanced magic missile on Abdul's foe while Orn invoked a spiritual axe. Although the vampire managed to charm Abdul, the rest of the party beat on it, dropping the monster. Ariadne attempted to stake it, but lacked the strength to drive the stake through the vampire's heart. Luckily, Amaryllis managed to grab a skull (from the turned skeletons earlier) and use it as a hammer to drive the stake home! Arthur then severed the undead's head and Cloe destroyed one of her holy symbols putting the vampire to eternal rest. One down!
Unfortunately, the formerly-gaseous vampire attacked Ariadne from surprise, wounding her. And the other vampire managed to charm Epicasta. Amaryllis smiled and cast a spell, transfering the charm to herself and freeing the Medegian warrior, who re-engaged her would-be enslaver. Meanwhile, the other heroes took out the formerly-gasous vampire, Ariadne's nightmare even crushing a section of its skull. Unfortunately, however, no one could drive a stake into the undead's heart in time and it assumed gaseous form.
The entire party turned on the third and final vampire, dropping it quickly and spiking it. Two vampires utterly destroyed and a third forced to retreat to its grave for a day's rest...
The group tended their wounds. Cloe used more of her liquid road to seal the other urns while Orn meditated for an hour and a half. Then, using one of Ariadne's lighten loads, the priest of Kor dimension doored the group in pairs out of the Lost Shrine of Thanatos. The heroes returned to the ship, used the last of their healing spells, and spent the night.
In the morning of the 19th, Cloe, Isaac, Sabuto, Jamal, Orn, Amaryllis, Ariadne, and Epicasta returned to the Lost Shrine. They noticed that the urns were unsealed and one had been partially damaged and split open. Ariadne decided to desanctify the area again, but just as she began the spell two things happened. First, a vampire solidified next to her (inside her ring of defenders!) and attacked. Second, more than a dozen shadows began to pour out of the urns. Amazingly, the heroes made VERY short work of the vampire, destroying him with a stake, while Cloe and Orn turned the shadows. Cloe used most of the rest of her liquid road to seal the undamaged urns.
Jamal, Isaac, Epicasta, and Amaryllis then began attacking the shadows physically while the priests held back and turned. After several minutes of this, the group was down to only three shadows, but that's when skeletons began to pour out the damaged urn. The undead were easy pray for the priests, but in the process, they attracted yet more attention and as the last of the skeletons were destroyed, quick-reacting zombies began to appear. Jamal, Isaac, Epicasta, and Sabuto charged forward and yet as they did, yet more zombies appeared. The spell-casters fell back, ready to lob another volley of turns...
