Hi All,
If David did not refer to it as a genie prison until we started to, that fits better with my understanding. My initial understanding was that it was a control device.
In that case. Climing up the back of the mountain (3B) is my first choice. I think trying the door guards is likley to end up thinning the party pretty dramaticly.

Hi guys.
Let me try to help this game of telephone. As you may have noticed, I've always referred to the Astroglobe as an Astroglobe. Now, it seems to have the properties of a Genie Prison, except those normally look like mundane items. This 'globe, on the other hand, is very fancy and seems much more like a standard magical item. The fact that is has stars on it, however, would lend Arabian PCs to think it is tied to the stars -- especially given there is a kind of mage in Zakhara called an Astromancer (or something like that) that uses stellar constellations to enhance spell-casting.
So, the precise nature of the 'globe is unknown....*ominous music, fading to a commercial break*

It is obvious that we need more information. If it is a "control device" then we are on much more solid moral ground in trashing this item.
I am not keen on walking up to fire giants and asking them if we can enter the forge without being harmed. :-D
I am not above turning the party invisible and sneaking in.
But I'm still leaning strongly to entering the cone from the back of the volano and not alerting the guards up front.
