On the morning of the 26th of March, 616 Common Year, the heroes set out for Al-Anwahr. This time they brought along a pair of animal handlers as well, Ari (a boy of 16 summers) and Hazan (a veteran of the Caliph's army) in addition to Subatai. The heroes had a fairly leisurely stroll along the track of the wadi the first day. In the morning a pack of wild dogs began shadowing the group, but Mahara spoke with them and exchanged a day's worth of dried meat for their departure.
In the evening of that same day, however, the party spied a group of ogres just as they were preparing to make camp. The part walked out to meet the monsters, only to be hailed ina friendly manner. These ogres, it appeared, were enlightened. They invited the heroes back to their camp for food and drink. Sabuto and Ling, however, thought better of leaving their animals and guides behind and elected to return to camp. Flint, Isaac, Subatai, Harbinder, and Mahara, followed, only to discover the ogres had laid a trap using the trapping of civilization as bait. Indeed, the monsters very nearly succeed; were it not for Flint's fighting skill, the party would have been lost. As it was, only through Mahara's use of his staff of curing and Flint battling three ogres at the same time did the party prevail.
Meanwhile, the other group also had a "visitor". Ynadin, the dao who had captured Mahara in the first place returned, once again asking his riddle. With a bit of guesswork and a hint from an idea spell, Ling and Sabuto recalled the legend of Azaltin, King of Al-Anwahr and gave that as their answer. Ynadin departed, having failed to recognize the transformed Sabuto.
The next two days passed largely without event. The did have one minor altercation with a hatori on April 1st, before they arrived at the oasis, but the heroes made short work of the "stone crocodile" and the entire incident was hardly of note.
